Need some help...

When the bell rings for performers to go onstage what's that called? Is an announcement made as well as the bell?

The five-minute bell?

The warning bell?

And in the Busby Berkeley movies, some one comes around and says something like; "to your places, girls!"

Dunno. I'm not doing to good on the trivia threads tonight.

I thought that was at the end... when people bow?
Dang! You're right.

Hmmm...

"Places everyone, places."

Nah--that's Fantasy Island. :(

Lemme get back to you...

Yeah the curtain call is the bows at the end.

Never been on a real stage with real crew - just amateur stuff and the director used to just wander about and tell us when to start.

Laughing -

Do I hear my name taken in vain? :cathappy:

"Call" is what specific time they have to be there to be ready to go (in costume/makeup) before the show begins.

Do you mean cues?

And curtain call is indeed what we hope for at the end. More than one, please!

So... does this work?

“I…” Andrew tried, again, to say something that meant – anything, but words had failed him. The single syllable hung in the air for a moment, as if suspended in a cartoon speech bubble, when a bell like that on a bicycle rang out and the bubble ruptured.

“That’s the first call. I have to finish getting ready.”

Me, too. The productions I was involved in used "Places" as the final call before the curtain went up.

The last one is the 'five minute call' (which is 10 minutes to curtain)

The one before is the 'ten minute call' (which is 15 minutes to curtain)

I was on both the professional and amateur stage. We heard "Places," followed sometimes by "Curtain Up."

I go with sr and Jenny.

There's 'stage call' - get your ass in gear, 'beginners please' - get in the wings and 'places' - get on stage ready for curtain up.

'Curtain call(s)' is raising the curtain at the end to register the rapturous audience acclaim.
