Back to My Old Antics

there are some links between whats happening now and what happened in the 60's with "the war on communism" ... the government now can almost do whatever they like and get away with it because of justifying it with "the war on terrorism" ... and if anyone questions it to much they can say they are sympathizing with terrorists

im not saying america/england is doing any of that stuff ... but theres a potential for it to happen

i do have a few concerns though ... we were told that this war would be nothing like what had happened before ... yet its almost exactly the same as what we did in serbia/kosovo

also is the west actually changing any of its policies that created this kind of hatred ... we wont defeat the hatred if we mealy use bully tactics

Unfortunately, the media is no longer content to report the news. They seem to feel that their responsibility is to make/control the news, whether it is true or whether it puts people at risk. Anything for a story.

I, too, am tired of people who point fingers at the US as if we are on equal moral footing with those who have chosen to be our enemies. I have real philosophical problems with ultra conservative, misogynistic, medieval, totalitarian religious dictatorships, no matter where they are. The Taliban has real philosophical problems with free thought and behavior, especially if practiced by women. We are simply at odds. There are some things I cannot and will not bring myself to find compromise with. If we were dealing with Hitler I would not consider allowing only half of the victims of the holocaust to be murdered to be an acceptable middle ground.

on the surface, what we see on the news appears to be the same, but there is a lot more going on militarily than was the case in serbia/kosovo. To my eye, the types of missions and the munitions reportedly being used indicate that even the visibleportion of this campaign is different than previous high publicity campiagns.

You make a good point about the "West" needing to change it's perception in the middle east. However, proaganda capaigns are difficult when just owning a radio is a capital offense.

So lavy, when are you going back to my favorite av?
