Just a word of advice.

There have been some work done on the Lit servers, and something happened with the forums last night. As a result, there are a great number of posts that has been lst, or at least not restoresd yet. Manu is working onnit, but there is no tellling when or if the stuff gone will reappear.

Some quite fine poems in the Passion thread are deleted, as well as (I think) some in the Consruction Zone, P10 and a few others. Stuff from last night have been disappearing all over the place.

I hope y'all are more careful than me, and keep all things worth saving somewhere local too. :)

And don't forget to back up your hard disk too!
Computers have gotten very dependable in the last few years, so I bet a lot of you have gotten lazy and now have a lot of your work in only one place. If you have dual HDs it takes only a few clicks to copy from one disk to another. It is a little more work to copy to a removable medium, but well worth it.

GO BACK UP NOW!

aww, not good, not good. Don't fly by the seat of your pants... Always back it up or you'll get your ass burned

 by the way, these emoticons are much sillier than ones before

I agree - in fact I dislike this format so much I might just leave. I don't like having that dancing banana exposed - it seems a shame after all Manu and the elves' work, but it's not an improvement

Two of mine disappeared, but yes, luckily, they were saved locally. I would make a frog stick his tongue out at fate, but fate has apparently already gotten him.

okay

I admit I use to save everything, but became comfortable
with having my poems on the thread "Chasin' Chickens"
I fall under the 'have become lazy' or comfortable with the
way things were <grin> I guess I should save at least a
couple of my poems. Thanks~

Shortly after joining Lit (December just passed) I suffered the distressing disaster of an overheating computer and the destruction of my hard drive. I lost everything, except the 5 or 6 poems I had submitted to the site. Absolutely everything.... about 6 years worth of creative writing (short stories and poems), as well as my University thesis', essays and dissertations, journal articles... the sum total of my adult life in words....I think I sat and lamented one night and tallied up a rough figure of about 120,000-150,000 words.

So yeah, backing up is a good suggestion.

All right. I just got my ass burned. My new computer blew its hard drive and fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants me didn't back up two months of writing!

Agh... back up people. Right now. Don't be all assuming.

Sorry about the ass burning. I see that you found a way to vent the smoke... :D
