Hey babe...

Do you like being called "babe."

Or "a babe."

Does it make a difference who said it? If you know their intention? Meaning perhaps there is a difference if a stranger says it. If a friend says it. If a lover says it?

What if its me?

Hey babe.

Connotation and tone...

Dilly, you can call me anything you like.

I call women I know "Babe", or say "Hey Babe" all the time. Even a few get called "A Babe".

"Babe" is acceptable. . .said in the proper context of course. The other "b" word, however, is never a good thing.

It totally depends on the situation. An affectionate "babe" is fine. But when its done in sarcasm or as an insult...forget it.

My exhusband once told me

"honey, you're a 'babe'" and, at first I didn't quite understand what he meant.... but then he clarified things and now, I believe, being called " a babe" or "baby" or "you're my babe" makes me feel very very sexy and feminine.

:)

I'm southern. We sweet talk everybody.
'Babe', 'darlin', 'sweetie', 'sugar' and many more terms of endearment get quite a workout in my neck of the woods.

I have to agree with Rose on this one, as a southerner as well I end the majority of my sentences with some small word of affection.

The other side is that it irritates me when totally repulsive, rude, ill-humored, and crude men call me "babe".

You can tell by the tone of voice and the way in which it is said if it is meant in a demeaning manner.

But to answer your question Dilly love, call me anything you'd like, just call me.

My SO calls me "babe" if she called me anything else I'd figure she was mad at me!

I don't mind being called babe for some strange reason. I just don't get to hear it as often as I'd like.

I dunno, I can only think of three instances when I've been called Babe, or Baby or anything like that, and while it didn't bother me, it's not my favorite expression. I can't shake the feeling that it implies a vague sort of inferiority.

I have no desire to be called 'A' Babe (is this the semantics discussion all over again?).

I've been called babe...I've called people babe. It's a good word, It's affectionate to me.

babe said with a kiwi accent is the best though...that makes me...well never mind

don't call me babe

I don't really like pet names, kitten being the lone exception.

You got me babe!

The word babe reminds me of that song by Sonny and Cher.

Anyone heard the version she sings with Beavis and Butthead?

I like it, but only from certain people. And I only use it on one person. I'm sparing when it comes to affectionate terms. They mean more that way. :)

I have always called my gf's babe and I also call my other close friends thats are girls babe too.
