Anyone have or used an axis 200+ camera I cant get it set up.

http://www.axis.com/products/cam_200p/

There is a faq on there to help you.

Quote:

Just install the camera directly to your Ethernet network, ISDN line, or phone line via a dedicated or wireless modem and you will be ready to view images via a standard web browser in no time.

HEHEHEHE....I thought this was someone named Axis looking to up their post count. :)

Sounds simple doesn't it....ive been all over that web page before and still cant get it to work.

From what I can tell it acts as a web server of sorts and I need to somehow network it to my computer and setup an IP adress for it.....I got this camera for free and I currently don't have one otherwise I wouldn't be bothering with it.

Do you have a dedicated line?

From what I can read about it,it wont work unless it is hooked up alone.

Go sell it on ebay and buy something better. ;)

Well I have a static IP address on my dsl.

Ah well maybe I'll do as you say and try selling it

I gather you've already read/downloaded the user manual and user guide ( http://www.axis.com/documentation/usermanual/200p/2hxum_1.12.pdf and http://www.axis.com/documentation/userguide/240/240ng_1.0.pdf )

I browsed through the user manual, and must admit that it's not particularly useful unless you're already familiar with setting up network nodes.

Is you DSL modem connected via a router, or a direct network cable to your modem? I suspect you're going to need a router or a second network card to make this work.

If you go with a second network card instead of a router, the cable from your computer to the camera probably needs to be a "crossover" cable -- that's a cable that swaps the wires so each node thinks it's connected to a router.

If you use a router, it should automatically assign an address to the camera -- if you use a direct cable you need to make up an address for the camera that isn't used on your existing network. (the default address might work)

Once you get the camera talking to the network (your computer), then it's just like a website that only you can access.

Those are all general comments, because without knowing the physical layout of your home network and what cables run where, it is very difficult to give specific advice.

PS: it might be worth consulting a local computer (network) tech who can "lay hands" on your system if necessary -- that sounds like to good a web-cam to give up on from the specs in the manual.
