Bill Maher decries ‘false equivalency’: Limbaugh went after a civilian

“He went after a civilian about very specific behavior, that was a lie, speaking for a party that has systematically gone after women’s rights all year, on the public airwaves,” he told ABC News’ Jake Tapper. “I used a rude word about a public figure who gives as good as she gets, who’s called people ‘terrorist’ and ‘unAmerican.’”

“The First Amendment was specifically designed for citizens to insult politicians,” Maher added. “Libel laws were written to protect law students speaking out on political issues from getting called whores by Oxycontin addicts.”

Although Maher is no fan of Limbaugh, he has opposed efforts to push him off the radio. Maher suffered cancellation of his old show Politically Incorrect after controversial comments he made following the 9/11 attacks.

I think Maher is wrong to not help push him off the air.

The other is a talk show host using the public airwaves to abuse a single private citizen. Private citizens can definitely be victims of crimes such as slander and defamation, not to mention that the abuse of private citizens is contrary to the stated use of public airwaves.

Saying that Flucke has not decided to make her career as a public figure engaged in political action is compartmentalizing. She was not some innocent plucked out of thin air, or randomly, but rather an operative chosen, without expertise, on a subject to willingly make a political attack.

The "War on Women" ploy backfired, as did the "Limbaugh Eruption."

The strategic reserve plan has been outed far too soon to be of any value now. It is in the process of being turned into a cheap political ploy before it's been implemented. As a matter of fact it may turn out to be a significant negative if they ever do implement it, but it's too early to tell right now. Regardless the president is falling back on the traditional democrat tactic of 'investigating the oil companies.' How many of these circuses are they going to put on before everyone, even their supporters, realize that it's just a show?

Afghanistan is coming apart at the seams while citizens are being subjected to more and more of what can only be called 'police state' tactics. This administration seems to have a serious problem with enemy identification.

ObamaCare is hanging around their necks like the proverbial albatross and that particular carcass is smelling worse by the day.

I can't wait to see what they try to capitalize on, or manufacture, next.

And if history is any guide you may rest assured that even those numbers are mis-underestimated.

Medicare/Medicaid was off by a factor of 4 when the dust had settled and the real numbers came in. The latest projections on ObamaCare are only off the original 'estimates' by 2.3 or so.
