Ax words are those simple words that you suddenly don't know how to spell and whichever way you spell them they look wrong. I call them "ax words" because one time I was writing a story and used the word "ax" but that didn't look right, so I changed it to axe. But then that didn't look right either. I didn't have a dictionary, and I agonized over the spelling to the point that the lost the train of the story.

Turns out either one's okay.

Anyhow, my latest ax words is "icy", which looks to me like it should be "icey", but no, that's not right either. My spellchecker says that "icy" is okay, but by now it looks like French to me and everytiume I read the sentence the word jumps out and grabs me by the throat.

The hell with it. "Frosty" will do.

Zoot,

When I am truly befuddled by an Ax word, I stick it into the nearest Google machine to see what it replies.

Half the time it gives me a definition for the word I wanted.

Half the time it gives me a definition for a word that I have no use for.

Half the time it asks me: Did you mean Rhythmic?

Which answers the question, and only leaves me wondering why checking spellings by Google takes 150 percent of my time.

The one I see most often at lit is "tongueing," or, if you like, "tonguing"!

Both look wrong, but MY spell checker wants the "e".

It has come to look marginally better, now, for some reason.

But I do them by their faces, too, Zoot. How do they look? I guess my mental speller is a recognition system.

I finally got 'tongue' right after about 3 or 4 erotic stories. I always wrote 'toungue'.

I still have to stop the fingers and engage the brain for 'rhythm', which must be one of the most perverse words in the English language.

Someone once mentioned 'accommodate'. That one's easy. You just double everything you can without making it look Dutch.

My latest glitch is connecting every word that modifes 'time': eachtime, onetime, everytime.

I tend to just use an alternate word when I hit one. Firey always gets me. I never get it right, in fact the odds are good I spelt it wrong here :)

Rhythm has come always to me naturally, maybe because I type that word too much when I review other people's musical pieces.

Anywho... hmm... ax words.

I know there is one but it is on the tip of my tongue and I cannot seem to get it out. It's not a short word, nor too long. Just right in length! *eats porridge*

It is always one little letter that will mess me up too. Grrrrrr. And, do not take files from Corel to MS Word, cuz Corel believes in the made-up word much better than MS Word does. hahahaaa

I have a list of words that Spell Checker or Proofreaders always miss after I first missed them first.

I need a definition section on the first page of every book to say:

If you see this:

Gaging, I really mean this>>> gauging

Through, lots of times I mean>>> thorough

Ecstacy, I mean>>>>ecstasy

Preform, 99% I meant>>> perform

Navel, I know I always meant>> naval (it is erotica sheesh, not ship sailing)

I have more, more! (getting out Ax & the Axe)

Sex is a Navel engagement without ships.

I can't spell fuck all... I mean is it fuckall... fuckal... fuck.........

Sex is a navel engagement without ships

I love it!

I tend to type too fast when I get on a roll. My poor spellchecker must be about ready for a nervous breajkdown.

I have got to the stage where "form" is a forbidden word on the exclusion list of my spellchecker because I use it so often when I mean "from".

When I'm reading, the one that really gets me reaching for a 1 vote is "tounge".

I know the one snoop's... "Mylon thrust his ever eager tounge into Mellisa's hot wet count"

I'm more guilty of typo's than spello's, big fingers you see two buttons at a time big... Although I sometimes get my mords wuddled up.

pops:D

Oh I must have hundreds of these!

One I still try and right is Angery instead of Angry (a friend in school...well ok the guy i had a crusg on...corrected that for me in secondary school)

There is also Difficault.

It looks right to me like that but my damn spell checker doesn't want an "a" in it and changes it to difficult which looks daft *L*

I also type form instead of from alot,so now I automatically track back and change it when i've written it*L*
