So some of you may be aware that my wife and I have embarked on the path of an open marriage. So the other day I was in a local pharmacy and noticed one of the women working there was at the cash register. I had seen her before in the store and found her attractive so I figured go for it. I aksed her if she was married and she said no, so I followed up with would you like to go on a date? She said I'm flattered but I have a boyfriend. I said that's cool but if you change you kind you see me here a lot. I saw her a few days later and checked to make sure she was cool with me asking her and she said absolutely.

So now to yesterday...I'm in the store again and this woman comes up to the counter to take care of me. Her and I and another cashier get to talking and the subject goes to copper head snakes. (A venomous snake where we live) and I said yeah my wife got bit by a copperhead a couple weeks ago. The woman I had asked on a date looked up at me and said YOUR WIFE. I said yes, I'm married. She gets flustered and embarassed and I just said sometimes the world is freer than you know. I finished my business and I left. But then I thought about it and I didn't want her to think I was just another cheating husband. So I went back in and said to her look I'm not a cheater my wife knows that I asked you out, heck I went home and told her I did. No secrets between us. I do this and she talks to guys. We are very open about it. She got very quiet, and then turned beet red with her eyes wide open. I put my hands on the counter and looked her in the eyes and said the offer still stands. Then I turned and left the store. I laughed all the way to my truck and then laughed again when i told my wife about it.

I will never forget the look on her face when she said YOUR WIFE!

I mean, a lot of people (especially men) who are married will lie to me about their marital status and/or claim they are in an open relationship and polyamorous, when in fact they are cheating. I don't blame the cashier for being skeptical.

I don't think she as skeptical as she was shocked that I said I was married. I told my wife we need to go in their together so I can introduce them. Yes, I would do that and have her tell her its okay.

Lying about relationship status is not exclusively a majority man thing anymore. Many women, or other gender identity people, are practiced at the art of deception these days. Perhaps I am unusual in that I laid it right out there for her in front of her co-worker. To be honest if she would have said yes to a date I would have told her before we went that I am married and in an open relationship. Also, in my world a first date doesn't necessarily end in sex. Sometimes if you enjoy someone's company you let things build and see what happens.

Yes, not a word to drop lightly— context is everything!
You’ll get used to it!

Fun scene. That might continue into a fun story if the wife actually went down and was successful in asking the girl out, which could lead to a great poly situation.

I wish you luck in your open marriage. For the two couples, I knew that tried it, it ended badly. Both, are due to the jealousy of the husband when their wives were far more successful at attracting other men than they were other women. But, sincerely, I wish you success and happiness.
