AWARDS VOTING GLITCH? (seriously!)

I just went to the voting page to check on the standings, and found that I in order to access the categories I had already voted on, I had to vote again. It was like I had never voted. Did my first vote not count? Did my second one? If so, it should be discounted.

What's going on? Has this happened to anyone else?

Hasn't happened to me. It says, "You have already voted on this category." Then it has a "check results" button you can click.

I noticed the same thing, WhisperSecret. I went back because I wanted to review the results and found it said I hadn't voted on an item I know I already voted on... when I clicked the button it gave me the option to vote - which I declined knowing I had already done so... but frustrated that I couldn't review the standings...

This is something Laurel/Manu should look into I think.

I find it a glitch that someone gets nominated to some topics and did not have as many nominations as someone else...maybe she whined enough???

Noogoo eh? Uddee eh?

Rosebud -

Laurel took the top 4 nominations in each category. Not all of them had the same number.

You wanna say something - say it.

listen pandora i am not saying anything too you...but check the thread on poems and add the nominations and tell me what you see....now calm down...i do not want to open your box

Rosebud -

Why wouldn't I be calm? I just don't like it when people insinuate instead of saying what they mean. You want to make an accusation, make it.

As I see the poem nominations, they went like this:

Taste of Us – Havocman (6 votes)
Oral Exercises - Havocman's (4 votes)
Into the Domain - WriterDom (4 votes)
Sweet Sweat Dripping - Havocman (3 votes)
Derby Day - Havocman (2 votes)
Literotica for Her - Whispersecret (2 votes)
A Pentecostal Interlude - Endlessly (2 votes)

And the Selections are:

Into the Domain - WriterDom
Literotica for Her - Whispersecret
Sweet Sweat Dripping - Havocman
The Taste of Us - Havocman

Yep, it does look different.

I assume from your Minnie Mouse comments that your theory is that whispersecret "whined enough" so Laurel just put her poem on there to shut her up?

Gee...why don't I think that's what happened?

And, yes. You DEFINATELY don't want to know what's in my box, sweetie. I think that's wise.

MP ;)

enough said, but maybe i do want to open the box too...you intrigue me

ummm muffy...what was that supposed to mean???

No, no one said a thing to me, whiny or otherwise. I believe I checked the file dates on some of the poems and found them to be from 1999. If this is an error, then I do apologize. I'm human. Sad, but true.

Laurel...

You? Human?

*BOOMING VOICE*

Pay no attention to that woman behind the curtain.

Damn...and HERE I thought this was my chance to get everything I ever whined about...damn damn damn...

MP ;)

Human??? Laurel??? i thought you were a god!!!! you are the best I was just wondering about the totals...if you check out pandoras response you will see what i was talking about... I know i have made no friends with this post...i don't really care...sorry but i don't but i believe that the results show what i am talking about...sorry Laurel but i believe a slip up has occured in the poems nominations...but i still worship you with lots of cheese as my offering

yes i did...now can i be the woman under your foot pandora????
for the record...i did vote for you

Whispersecret

I will go on record to say; I think 'Whispersecret' is a incredibly gifted writer and we are lucky to have her here with us. It is people like her that make this site fabulous. Personally I don’t care what some of the idiots post here on this section of the site, Whispersecret is hot stuff. She has a world of experience and the maturity to bring it together in a great story.
Ambrosia I did vote for your story despite your juvenile comments on other topic about voting and nominations I started. I didn’t let your pettiness rub off on my opinion of your work. Go ahead check it out, on the nomination forum under loving wife’s. I wonder if our roles had been reversed what you would do. Well I guess I do know.

why not restart the voting with a better system?

There is something rotten with the voting when "Literotica for Her" was leading by a few votes and almost overnight "The Taste of Us" pulls ahead by 35 votes with hardly any increase in votes for the other 3 poems.

Fred H. voted for Ambrosious.

You know, if I didn't know for a fact that 99.99999% of the readers & writers at this site enjoy the voting results and the Awards, I'd probably wanna go pull the voting right off every single story. Criminy, people!

This is a porn site.

You come to this site for fun.

The awards and voting are things that the readers and writers have clamoured for. We added them at your request, because we want to make this place as enjoyable as we can for you. We didn't add them so that everyone would spend more time adding up voting numbers and posting conspiracy theories and being upset than reading stories. We didn't add them as some sort of objective ranking of the worth of stories. We didn't add them as a burden, but as an aid to you, the author, and you, the reader.

I think the voting can be a good source of feedback provided you don't take it as some Almighty Supreme Being judging your story. You can compare voting numbers between stories you've submitted. Which one was rated higher than the others? Why? Was it the subject matter, or the way I dealt with it? Am I happy with my story? What kind of email feedback did I get on it? Taken as a small part of the entire picture, voting feedback can help to show you where you succeeded and where you need to work.

Any voting system involving humans is bound to contain fraud. Why? Because no matter how many cookies and scripts and IP checkers you employ, you still cannot get inside a person's head to discern WHY they chose that particular story. Was it because it was their favorite story of the year, or because they liked the author's name, or because they always pick "C" on multiple choice questions?

If there are people out there attempting to fraud this contest - or the voting in general - then I feel bad for them. What sad lives they must lead to put that much time and effort for some rinky-dink silly prize in a rinky-dink silly corner of the web. But I assure you that we will go through the data at the end of the contest and check IP's - not just for identical IP's but for IP's in a series that would indicate the same person voting. We have all sorts of ways of detecting those things, I'm told. Once the voting deadline is past, Manu and I will sift through the data and eliminate any revotes and fraud.

Even with this, there will still be complaints. They will complain because the story they liked didn't win. They will complain because the story they liked wasn't nominated. They will complain because no one will write a story they like - because all the writers suck and the site sucks and I suck. They will complain because the BB is too silly. Because it's too serious. Because people are always flirting. Because people are always fighting.

That's the nature of people. I used to get upset about this, but I'm starting to understand things better. And so long as people are enjoying the controversy, the fighting, the conflict, and the complaining, then I'm fine with it. But if you're involving yourself in all of this negativity without enjoying it at all - if you're getting yourself all worked up about voting scores and BB posts and fraud and New York Times Best Seller List and how unfair it all is...if the voting and the awards is making you lose touch with what you enjoy about the site, then maybe you should step back and look at the big picture. Relax a little. Read a few stories. Send a quick note to the authors. Have fun, for chrissake. That's why you're here, remember? The worst thing would be for you to ruin your own good time over something that is not all that vital in the big picture.

We'll continue to improve the site. We have big plans in the works. I am always open to your suggestions and comments and ideas, as those are the driving force behind our growth. Thanks, and good night. :)

Earlier in this thread Laurel admitted to being human...

She was lying...

I'm sorry this post is so long in coming. I've had to deal with my offline life and my muse was shaking me by the throat and I had to write.

If my poem was nominated by mistake, I want it removed from eligibility.

As far as whining is concerned, I'm not sure where I was supposed to be whining. Clue me in. Seriously.

Whisper Wine?

I'll take a glass! Hell, I'll take a case.

After all is said and done, Laurel you have done a teriffic job, and H.S. Writer did a fine job with the nominations as well. My critisms have been posted, noted, and delt with. Just want to say thanks for a really god job.

Laurel:
I didn't know you very well before this posting what with your short posts on various parts of the BB. Now, I believe that someone should call India and tell them that all their beautiful Tigers are not dead. . .we have one heading up Literotica. I get sick and tired of wishy-washy people, it's refreshing to see someone that lands firmly on one side of the fence, regardless of which side it is. I am even happier that I began submitting my stories here.

He's right. I'm an ostrich.

Wow! I guess I'm not an ostrich after all, but a Tiger - and a beautiful one at that! Which is much better than the female dog synonym, lol. I don't know what I did, but I'm glad that whatever it did makes you glad to share your stories with the Lit folks. Keep dem stories coming! :)
