I'm getting close and planning ahead..I can't seem to find mention of the correct size for an av..Help, please. Thanks in advance.

The AV size is 150x150 pixels or 20000 bytes (whicher is smaller).
Found an AV yet? If it's too big, someone on Lit. can resize it for ya.

Thanks, Mona. I'm still looking around for the right one. I have a program that I think I can use to resize it, but if not, it's nice to know there are those here that will help.

You have to reach 100 posts prior to using an av. Keep posting, you'll get there soon.

Any picture can be used as an avatar if resized down to no more than 20Kb or 150 pixels in it's largest dimension. That means any picture on the internet or that will fit in your scanner. If you can't find one there, then get out your digital camera and take a picture that suits.

Note, not all pictures make good avatars. The more detail there is in the original, the less it makes for a good avatar. Look at the avatars others use and you can see that some are just "too busy" to be considered "good."
