Turn on Private Messages.

Professional editor (in training) would like to practice on your stories

Hello! As part of a midlife career change, I will soon hold a copyediting certificate from a well-known US university.

1) I edit with Microsoft Word. No Google Docs or others. It has to be a .doc or .docx file.

2) It has to be tame. Obviously nothing forbidden by the site or that skirts that line, no water sports, no non-consent, no violence, no supernatural bestiality, no racial stereotypes (non-offensive interracial is okay), no heavy BDSM. This is just a professional preference.

The Chicago Manual of Style is my reference book.

I am available for light copyediting of shorter pieces, say under 3000 words. "Light" means correcting grammar, spelling, syntax, and continuity. I would not be commenting on story or character development, believability, "did it get you there," etc.

My time is limited, but I will let you know within 3 days if I cannot take on your story. This is true for May 2020; if you message me 6 months from now, I may have moved on.

Finally, this needs to stay purely professional. I will not ever "chat" with you. I will be kind in my editing, but if your messages cross that professional line, you won't hear from me again. I also reserve the right to stop working on your piece immediately if I find a scene on my "no" list, or for any reason. I will try to politely let you know if that happens.
