Please sign in here if you are available to edit this month.

Should you prefer copy or literary editing, please say so.

Also, should you be unwilling to edit certain types of story (Non-Con, BDSM, Fetish, Incest, etc.), please include notes on preferences as well.

I'm tied up probably though mid-May but may be free for a few edits after this time. I would seek other editors first, if there are any, before contacting me. If you have a short story, 4k words or less, I might be able to work it in earlier. Anything larger will have to wait.

I am open-minded as far as cats go, okay even with gay as long as it is not too graphic. If in doubt ask, the worst I can do is tell you "no".

Hello
I just had a story rejected with the suggestion that spelling might be an issue, which I find surprising as I can (usually)spell. Would it be possible for you or someone else take a look at it and tell me how I have failed?
Thank you

Peter

If you are usually good at spelling it could be an issue of word usage (there vs. their, it's vs. its, etc.).

To be honest I am backed up but if it's a short story, 2-3k words, maybe can fit it in. If longer, for this problem, consider contacting ttvtpp, a self-professed expert at this. He/she has a thread here, or just PM this person.

Thanks, Snooper, for doing this.

If you need a beta reader, feel free to drop me a line, but read on for details first. Read everything.

How I edit: I go through your story and in double brackets tell you what to fix so that you won't make the same mistakes next time. I will tell you how words should be used, poke at your grammar, suggest changes for sentences and paragraphs and descriptions and offer critique of the storyline and characters. I, however, will not change things myself. I expect you to do the editing yourself based on my advice contained within your manuscript. I also expect you to spell check your story using either Word or spellcheck.net or some other spellchecker prior to sending me your story. I will not do this for you. My goal is to make you a better writer, not polish over your writing and make it look pretty to get accepted. No, I feel that's your job--I will just tell you HOW to polish it. I cannot and will not work with people too stupid to learn after I tell them a couple times the difference between your and you're. Generally people who I work with are not people who need a spellchecker and a grammar checker for every other word (in fact, I make spelling mistakes myself if I don't spell check), but people who want to make their writing stand out a step above the crowd. I expect people who I beta read for to learn, and to want to make their writing better rather than just want someone to make sure their commas went in the right places.

At current, I have one person sending me a longform story, and cannot be tied up in something excessively long. No strings attached editing. I'll take short stories or single chapters. I will not edit your novel or do several chapters. I would prefer stand-alone short stories, no poetry or scripts.

Double space anything you send me or I'll PM you back and tell you to double space it. In Word it's just a matter of searching for ^p and replacing that with ^p^p. ((Edit: Double spacing is two line breaks between paragraphs, exactly as this post is done. If your saved story looks like this post, rather than using the traditional line break, indent then it's exactly what I want. However, if it's indented and does not have two breaks between paragraphs, please run find and replace for ^p and change it to ^p^p--in Microsoft Word, ^p is a line break, which is what you get if you hit the enter key.))

Genres: I really like speculative fiction (science fiction and fantasy varients are my favorite) and I'll probably prioritize these over generic guy meets girl, and then they fuck stories. Het, GLBT, BDSM, fetish, whatever, etc, are all okay, I'm fairly open minded. However, incest makes me uncomfortable, please don't send me any.

If you want my help and think I'd be able to give what you need, by all means, PM me and tell me about your story. My availablity varies but the worst I can do is say no, not right now, or to PM me again in a few days.

If you have a story already posted or available online feel free to PM me and request constructive criticism as well.

I'm a highly experienced beta reader, I've been editing and critiquing for years now and though I overwhelm some people, most people who've looked to me for editing and improving their writing skills have found that they improved signifigantly. :)

Oh yes, I also only work through PMs. No attachments, IM, or email.

Hello!

and hello to all my friends who've helped me write. Look at little old me!

I'm unproven as an editor; nonetheless, I want to try. I prefer word (docx) and track changes. Since I am new at this, I request a story less than 5K and will only complete one or two per month. I'm slow, so do not expect anything back overnight. I'll do anything but incest and prefer stories of romance. Sexual orientation doesn't matter. I do not want junk, so if you haven't done your best, don't bother with me. As AsylumSeeker likes to say, 'you may not like me'. Nonetheless, my price is cheap. I use CMS (Chicago Manual of Style) as a guide. My friends up there, please do not edit this post. :D
