It's a pretty simple question. Have you ever served jail time? All I need is a yes or no, unless you WANT to provide details. For me, it's YES, and more than once, and mostly for petty shit -- I did one day in jail for jaywalking in Los Angeles long ago. I won't talk about the non-petty shit except to say that I have no felony convictions.

The follow-up question is, of course: Has a jail experience flavored your writing? For me, it's mostly NO. Hey, it's been a long time, and I was never inside for very long. Yes, I've mentioned such experiences in a couple pieces and will likely do so again in the future, but it's not had a major impact. I don't think of that very much. How about you?

The witness protection guys said I don't have to answer questions like that.

Yes, for a few hours; turns out it was for an unpaid speeding ticket. No shit.
I haven't used it yet, but maybe I will, someday.

Never, I'm a good boy. Actually, since I was a child I've had a fairly good sense of when things are about to go wrong and therefore I tend to walk away before any kind of authority arrives. Also I'm too pretty for prison, unless you want to put me in girl prison...

-Anyone convicted of any crime should be executed. Wam Bam, Done!

-Safe streets.

I have been jailed five times, twice for offenses (petty) three times for protesting (twice down south)

So I should have been executed for jaywalking? (There was no traffic for several blocks, except the cop who saw me run across the boulevard.)

Nope.

I got a speeding ticket once though. 52 in a 35. 8.5 months pregnant. I had to pee. $147.

Spent a month in a Indian jail once. Been arrested back home for the usual stuff, and also some less usual stuff.

Also served time in a boarding school. Jail was a doddle after that :)

Every day for eight hours a day for several years. :D

And, oh yes, it has shown in places in my writing.

Yes a couple of times.

Cliched as it sounds its a life changing experience.

However the reason is something I will never regret and if I was in the same position now nothing would be done differently.

As for my writing? I think in the sense that when I write something dark recalling those times gives me an outlet to draw from because it was a pretty bleak time in my life. A lot of nasty shit went down before it, got in and out of some bad spots during it and people treated me like either the plague or a ticking time bomb after I got out. I literally had to start from scratch, even my parents didn't talk to me for a long time. The only person that stuck by me was my sister.

So yeah I think it gives me an edge when I go down certain paths in my writing

That's interesting as you come across as MR. Vigilante in your "killer of rapists" thread. Even if they deserve it killing is a crime, right?
