Just a small thread. I don't want to make a song and dance about it, but I have been wondering for a loong time. I don't really read my email feedback from lit. I stopped about over a year ago when I realised it made me stop wanting to write. I find it a bit confronting, you have some good stuff, but you have some not so good stuff. Public comments are fine, because people write them knowing everyone can read them. Does anyone sort of feel the same? Am I being selfish or unreasonable because they are there if I want to read them, but I don't switch comments off (I think you can do it?) because I know I am not likely to read them? Not that I get that many, mind.

If the e-mail is good, like "God, I came so hard!" I save it.

If it's bad, like the recent "I hope the next thing you shit on to paper is a suicide note." I reveived, I laugh and delete it.

If it's good criticism, I save it as well and use its points to help write my next work.

Wait a minute... Are you saying you get negative feedback in e-mail? You, darling? They've got to be kidding. You're an excellent writer! What, are you working in Loving Wives or something?

I get my share of those "Eat shit and die!" e-mails, and of course I follow their advice to the letter as would any sensible person. but outside of that, what kind of bad feedback do you get? Actual critical stuff? Or just insane misogynal ranting?

All feedback that I get encourages me to write more. I love hearing from people whether good or bad. It's all fun and games to me :D

I read them. Why allow them if I won't? I reply to the sane as often as I can, whether the feedback is good or bad. The crazy and/or obscene, I just delete.

For me the trick is to not take it personally.

I almost view this as a game of "The Sims"

If I've built the place well, the feedback is good.

If I've messed up and screwed up something and there's no fire extinguisher, everyone dies and the house burns down.

But it's fun either way. I get to see the results of my imagination.

If I didn't read the feedback, I wouldn't get to see the really fun messages like the one, from a secret admirer, that appears in my signature now:

"Too long. I grew weary and couldn't finish it. What a waste of time for the benefit received. Try shorter next time. Oh well, I'm sure your little cliche [sic] will all vote you a nice score. That's the idea, right?"

"Oh, Rhett, I grow so weary of reading these stories on Literotica," she said, laying the back of her hand across her forehead as she reclined on the sofa. "Please take me away from this horrible, tiresome place."

I LOVE that feedback. I swear, the giggles resound.

I was so happy when I got an actual anonymous troll that read every story in order, commented on every one and voted zeros.

Attention! I got attention! I'm thrilled to waste people's time.

My last negative comment went something like this.

You silly, you write good stories not silly stories. Don't write stories like this silly one again
.

Yeah, I laugh and delete them, and if they do happen to leave an email address, I write them a little note, thanking them for their contribution and wishing them luck in finding something to read that they do like.

Most of mine lately has been on Impossible Gifts, and all of it is coming from SOL. Lots of great encouragement, and a lot of people pointing out that I made a mistake in attributing Mozart, not Beethoven, with Fur Elise.

I've gotten some recent PCs here on Lit exhorting me to add more to ongoing stories. I've submitted new chapters to a lot of stuff, but heavens only know when they'll post- and when Ch. 16 of IG posted, there was no feedback whatsoever for almost 24 hours. Nice- considering that I had just gotten PCs asking when I was going to add a new chapter...

Basically, I get little to no feedback, which is okay. What feedback I do get, I save, and when it's positive, add the address to my monthly update list. When it's negative, I generally take what is useful from it and move on.

I don't think I've ever gotten a negative e-mail feedback. Comments, sure, but I think all the e-mail has been positive.

Guess I'm lucky.

I don't get negative emails.

I get emails that make me laugh.

The only e-mails or comments that bug me are the racist ones. While I don't get many, those are the only type I delete from Public Comments. The only ones I save are those about the writing, not the story's content.

Wishful, re-read Zoot's post. You're way too good a writer to let the single-digit IQ flammers get you down.

Not only do I read them all - if they're not from my avid reader "Anonymous", I even reply with a short "thanks for taking the time to write". And if they like my writing, I save their email addys, and send them all a message when I post new stuff.

That said, 80 to 90 percent of my email feedback is positive, most of them from female readers and involving details about wetness. I guess I'm just lucky.

I get the normal stuff, like send pics etc. It's the demanding to the point of rude emails, like I'm at fault. Just ignore me, I shouldn't have started a thread in the public forum.

Love it.

Nobody asks me to send pics. Sniff. I feel so left out. ;)

I think you should save all the bad ones, and then weave them into a story where the troll can't get it up, using the quotes as his dialog.

Nobody ever asking to see a pic of me is okay. I can handle that. It's all those begging me to neither send nor post a pic that hurt on my widdle feelings. :(
