Author sanity vs General insanity

Everytime I try reading and responding in the General Board, I run screaming back here to the Author's Hangout.

Is it just me, or is there a more prevelant attitude of sanity, rationality, sarcasm, wit, and common acceptance of writers among writers?

I know some of you wander amongst the savages yourselves. Have I simply not learned how to swim as a shark among the barracuda's? Am I no more than a lowly clown fish trying to venture into water too deep to be safe? Should I stay here protected by the nurturing company I've come to love until I gain my status to name on my own?

What are your thoughts? How big are your teeth?

Ha ha, Eff. A long time ago (I've nearly repressed the memory) I posted a response on the GB correcting misinformation about Catherine the Great and a horse. I thought I was matter of fact and polite but I got called such mean-spirited names indicating I was a snobby academic I haven't been back since.

What were you thinking. Trying to smarten up the masses  To us academia is like Manna from heaven.
but if they'll have none of our bread then

Let them eat cake.

lol

the refrence is wrong I know

Destinie - definately kinder than what I was thinking.

My last venture into those troubled waters was to a thread about exhibitionism. Ironically many women were saying how they were against the basic idea - while displaying AV's of unclothed women. I simply pointed out that they may have been exercising a type of exhibitionism in this manner. Somehow I seemed to have missed their point (if they have any). The question would make for a good discussion over here, I think. Over there it was no more than a sleazy bar scene.

(I have plenty of tissues for the tears, and I'll stop whining)

i wander there frequently... used to post more often... then again, i used to post frequently in the BDSM forums as well and I never even venture there any longer.

Both places seem a bit too.... large?? Too much going on. Now I really need to pick and choose which threads to respond to, let alone read. The GB is filled with so much uselessness these days.

Hmmm...instead of raising my standards, perhaps I should just sink lower in the gutter.....

Feeling Foolish.

I rarely post in the GB, my teeth are not that big or sharp. This forum is much more accepting and forgiving than the other waters I've tested around here. I pick and choose the threads carefully in the GB if I do post there anymore. The only thing I was able to produce from the GB when I first started posting there was a boat load of pm's and emails wanting cyber and phone sex, so I found my way here and have been happy since (granted I don't even post that often here).

I used to hang out there quite a bit, getting into the petty political posturing. Now, I'll occasionally go over there and make a comment to watch the little fishies bite and fight if I'm in the mood.

I used to hang on the story ideas forum, but it got to be too much of the same, so I haven't been there in quite awhile.

The only other forum I hang out on besides the authors forum with any regularity is the glbt forum.

"Well I learned my lesson well"

I am glad to be in the right place at the right time. You all are the better folks to be around. Here I seem to be able to say something harmless and not be accused of trying to get a date. I'm probably too old for that crowd anyway - and I'm not fishing for a date (sorry, I just can't imagine spending an evening with some of those children - no wonder the young guys only last a few minutes) - I just like interesting conversation, and innuendo, and a little flash of temptation...

Oh, well, does DOM really stand for dirty old man? (I like sane, understanding beauties also).

It's sad that there are so many people over there who are so viscious. I hung on the GB for only a short while.

I noticed that few if any of the regulars over there had written and posted anything in the recent past. A few back in 2000, most none at all.

What does that say?

I like the analogy - only I haven't found any strips over there I like yet.

I still go in the GB occasionally for a laugh. Base humor, of course, but sometimes funny.

The constant bickering, insults and backbiting get too me so I can never stay long.

I posted a few things on the GB before the start of the liberation of Iraq on the French attitude to becoming involved.

The responses were interesting but not very enlightened. No one seemed to understand that the French people have experience of involvement in an Islamic country and were reluctant to repeat the trauma. They also have a large Islamic population some of whom understand the tensions between Islamic sects.

The French were trying to warn the US (and Britain) that a war and its aftermath would not be quite as simple as it was being portrayed at the time.

The GB's response was a series of attacks on the French.

I decided to stay away from the GB. There are too many people there who would not retain information if it was hammered into them with a club or are so fixed in their ideas of the world that they would vote for a candidate who shared their views even if that candidate was dead.

I hate to sound like a snob. Don't get me wrong I am a snob:D
I just hate to sound like one.

But at the AH you can expect to find people who read more than the Grocery store trash mags. And who understand literary refrence even if it's a bit vauge. I posted something on GB and quoted good ol Will S. Ahorse a horse... and so on. People actually asked what I wanted a horse for:rolleyes: I didn't think I was being vauge either It was a pretty straight forward quote.

I never feel quite clever enough on the GB

'course, I never feel quite clever enough here, either = )

I've never wandered out into the great beyond of the general populace board. I'm comfy in the Author's hangout with people I've talked with and are at ease with.

Where else on Literotica.com can you bounce ideas around and get inspiration for your next story? Where else can you get authors to hand you Creative *literally* feedback on what would work and what wouldn't?

I'm pretty laid back and I prefer being in a place with my friends.

GP is just way too much for me. After reading what happened to you guys, I'd rather stay here, thanks. I'd probably have lost my temper with people who couldnt take a bit of polite correction of historical fact. Geeze.

Ffreak,
I think that most women who are against exhibitionism are too uptight. I wonder how many of them go to art museums and oogle the nude statues? *grins* But seriously, I think it would be a neat discussion factor here at the Author's Hangout.

Please start the thread yourself, I think it should be a woman who begins the conversation. I have opinions but I just started a thread yesterday.

supportively, Perdita :rose:

It's up, the thread title is:

Exhibitionism: Like it? Or Not?

Go have fun. This could prove to be interesting to see how the discussion developes. ;)

Hey Rhino why did you swap Perdita on your shoulders for flouncy piece?
