Yeah, not just swimmers. Anybody who spends anytime outside needs to very wary of skin cancer. The Aussie sun is something else trying to kill us.
 
It's meant ironically.
It's a word with interesting etymology. Aside from the common sinister connotations, it could be interpreted as a judgement, a decision, a penalty, or something set in place.
"That is the doom that we must deem."
Which some people might still find ironic.

Well, there you go. I read this as "Australian women are failing..." It was so puzzling I started reading the thread. It's sobering to think I could read "failing" for "trialing" over and over.

Oh, it's worse than that. I kept reading it as "...trailing...". Trailing behind whom? Trialing is such an odd word.
