Australian 2022 Federal Election has started. Get ready for it to suck.

Well, I guess every country has its dedicated contingent of racialists
and I'm not basing this observation on this thread alone
but your comments about the US election
in the other thread also...

Fair enough. I can agree to disagree. But I prefer the US Democrats to the Aus Labor party on issues relating to racial justice any day. I think this article sums it up best:

https://theconversation.com/austral...-provide-a-level-playing-field-for-all-139755

The Australian Labor Party (the "centre left" really centre right) party is where the United Kingdom Conservatives are on racial equality and justice. Again the article isn't hard enough because a lot of White Australians don't like admitting to the racism of the country e.g. "Know your place you sand n*****".

Those are actual words an older White Australian of higher ranking once actually told me.

Yeah, I just cannot bring myself to care enough about Australian politics
and I always wonder about outsiders who focus on our politics...

Y'all impose your cultural prejudices on how
we should think and act.

Eh, as an American living in Australia, I can tell you the difference isn't anywhere near what most Aussies like to think it is. Except maybe on guns.

I hate this. I hate both major parties of Australia. One's a subtly racist white supremist party. The other is an openly racist white supremist party.
Well yeah, but one is demonstrably worse than the other. My god, we need a change.

Media is partly to blame. Can't remember the official cash rate = unfit to govern. Such total rubbish.

Most of our minor parties are terrible, but there are some really good ones too. Try to find the positive side of things. Check out the Australian Progressives.

I wouldn't say the minor parties are good. Maybe the left leaning ones. I got an independent running in my seat with about a 20-25% chance of actually winning.

Today I called him up; since there was a flyer in my mailbox and asked the following if there was a Hung Parliament:
  1. Is there anything you are going to do about income inequality?
  2. Are you going to remove the franking credits, negative gearing and raise the Capital Gains Tax to improve housing affordability make it more fair for first home buyers to get into the market at an affordable rate?
  3. Are you going to effectively change or work to change the voting system to make it more fairer as well?
  4. Do you support any changes or policies that would reduce the racism and/or combat the white supremacy undercurrent in Australian society?
  5. What are you thoughts on One Nation Toryism - UK variety?
In every question I asked the guy picked the liberal (or worse) answer or refused to answer it.

^^^Great example of a small-minded American pontificating on an international forum.

Maybe Americans should also build a virtual wall to keep the "outsiders" out of American-based web sites? We could get those foreigners to pay for it.

well, i suppose australians have opinions on american politics, so i'd like to think americans might have opinions on australian politics, but silence would probably be better than hearing 'i actually dgaf'

I presume that in Australia, racism mostly involves the aborigines? Or is it the Asians? I know there was once a successful movement to keep out Chinese immigrants. (Yes, I know America has nothing to be self-righteous about in that particular regard.)

Australia is a strategically important military partner to the U.S., especially since the DoD has shifted its main focus of attention to the Pacific. What happens there matters to us.

They have nukes? Oil?

There's a danger that they're going to elect a pro-Chinese government?

They are the largest supplier of industrial materials to China, iron ore, Coking coal (Non energy) and Gas. They are best placed to replace China as the go to source for rare earth minerals. They also supply China with significant wheat imports. After the next election the woman designated to be Foreign Minister is a Mrs Wong.:)

No wonder you're always behind the curve.

Some of each. It's subtler than in America, but it's still there. My wife is Asian, and when people hear my accent and know I'm American, they usually assume she is, too. More than once, they've asked her which part of Hawaii she's from (neither of us has ever even been there).

No wonder you're always behind the curve.
I ain't the one who thinks history ended in 1964.

It's actually kind of worse. There's stories every six months or year or so where white people kill non-white people and face zero impunity. The media and the police outright refuse to admit that such incidents are racist or racial in nature.

Here's an example of a white ex-girlfriend https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-03-11/qld-logan-fatal-house-fire-sarah-mudge-stanley-obi/100899918 ')">. There's no articles on the ABC about how this was a racial in nature despite the fact that, every black woman I know, has said she probably thought she could get away with it cause she was white and he was black.

There's also others stories that fit the mold. Such as were a white women killed her black boyfriend after stabbing him several times and then got off by crying about "domestic abuse" and "self defense". Or other instances where three white teens killed a polynesian/fiji teen and then got off on it because of them being "underage". Or the time some white "friends" drowned a South Asian guy in suspicious circumstances and there wasn't a police investigation on the matter.

Stories like this appear every other year or so. Considering Australia's size it would be like the equivalent of hearing about an irreputable racial killing in America every month or so by someone who isn't a state authority. People would be willing to admit there is something wrong with America on that matter and that there has to be change.

I'm sounding so fortright about this matter and so blunt is because I personally was once the victim of a White Supremist attack where my neighbor vandalized my window, called me a curry muncher and harassed me for nearly a year and much more. I called the police on him after the vandalism and they refused to arrest him or do anything about it or the clear threats he made.

He got away with it because he's white and I'm not.

If the tables were turned and I did what he did I would be sitting in a jail cell right now.

Australia is the most racist nation in the anglosphere and deserves to be called out, criticized and acknowledged as such.

Is racism in any way at issue in this election? Is anyone running on a racist or anti-racist platform?
