Aussies! Check in here!

I would love an open fireplace at the moment.
It’s bloody cold here in Victoria

Could always move north or hold on for another decade or two when the weather down south will be like that in SE Qld. This world of ours is only going to get warmer.

The weather in Ballarat and Bendigo is at least 5 degrees colder than Melbourne at the moment. I know Bendigo can get snow in the Winter, I've seen the pics from a former workmate. Warmest place seems to be Mildura, the termites up there must be huddling together to keep warm. No need for a sawmill up there, just throw the wood in the backyard and you'll get sawdust by morning.

Morning all,

Been up till the early hours of the morning most of the week watching the World Cup. Getting to bed as most people are getting up to go to work. With Winter here there isn't much to get up early for especially if it's cold and raining outside.

Taking my mum out for lunch for her birthday on the weekend which here in Melbourne is going to be a wet one. Was thinking of taking a drive to the country but that has been scuttled by the bad weather being predicted. Lots of wind the last couple of days which was a sign of something coming. Might even get some hail and a thunderstorm or two.

Being the new FY lots of tax stuff happening as well as those tax cuts. Good to the see the poor pollies will be several thousand dollars better off, they must be doing it tough what with their govt cars and allowances and investment properties negative geared so they pay less tax. Real Aussie battlers. Wonder if they order Uber Eats delivered by a person earning $5 per trip and no minimum wage cause they're a contractor. We should be grateful we're in the lucky country, otherwise we'd be fucked.

Wasn't aware that basket ball now incorporates boxing. Two sports for the price of the same ticket. Now that's value for money. Should watch it more often. And the Aussie cricket team found a country it could beat, go team. Now if we could only transfer the Ashes to Zimbabwe, win win.

Hope the rest of the week and weekend aren't too wet where you are. As for the cold, well according to the BOM it's going to be a warmer than normal Winter with less rain. See...global warming isn't all bad, just throw another rain forest on the fire.... toasty.
Yes a new FY. More than the tax changes, it's the GST carve up changes that might get interesting. 30 cents in the dollar on a 5 year delayed basis when the mining royalties that caused the calculation dropped off the scale as well. Now if they would just pay off the state debt raised to cover the shortfall and reverse the massive service charges increases used to keep the place afloat there might be a chance that the Libs might keep a couple of seats. Single issue voting.

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is staying warm...it's been chilly here, but at least the sun is out. We've been baking chocolate cake, so the house is filled with a warm chocolatey smell. It's wonderful!

Happy Sunday!

4 days of 21 deg and blue skies, yay. Time to get in the water and get some more sun

Chilly here in queensland today. Chicken in the slow cooker making stock for a noodle soup tonight. It's been a strange month for our small unit; all turmoil and tenderness. My wifey sets sail on strange new waters. She's speaking to doctors this week about the initial stages of menopause. She's struggling with hot/cold, frequent irregular periods, feelings of insecurity, horniness... So basically, it's come here and cuddle me, i'm cold now get away your too hot, i want to fuck again but i've got my periods for the second time this week.

We're finding some humour in it all though and we'll grow around it.

That's they key isn't it, grow around what you've got and all the rest just falls in place.

Anyone alive in Oz on a thursday. Last day of fine weather over here, so I imagine all Perth people will be out and about.

I'm alive. Weather is coming down south here. Been a pretty good day but it's on it's way.
Last few days have been magic. Wouldn't have minded a little outdoor fun even. Would need to be quick though, still a little brisk.
:D

hi everyone I hope everybody is well I hope your weeks going good for you all I hope you're all staying warm it's cold cheers

Its that cold in Melbourne at night that I have now started wearing socks to bed.
Forecast is for another cold night with rain.
I might need to sleep in front of the open fire at night.
Hurry up and bring on summer.

Friday morning here in Victoria and it’s still bloody cold at least it’s not raining.
Have my hands inside my pants to keep them warm.

Morning all,

Was up earlier than normal given that I've been up till the wee hours watching the soccer after watching Le Tour but it has been a struggle to stay awake. The heater is getting a good run even though it has been noisy for the last week. Getting it checked next week so in the mean time just turning up the volume on the TV but is annoying when watching a quiet show like a cop show.

Well Dutton seems happy that our migration numbers are down and he has new super powers. He'll be asking for a cape next. Apparently we need the right people, not sure who those people are. Some might say our pollies are not the right people. Wonder if we could do a swap?

It's Friday the 13th so no walking under black cats whilst carrying a ladder. Given the weather here in the SE it's probably too cold for cats or ladders but the possums are still active. Trying out a possum repellent, never tried that before as they usually aren't a problem. The cold weather is changing their normal behaviour.

Was surprised that The Fed Express lost his match as he was so close to winning. Now to see if Rafa can make it another win. Is interesting to see that the older players are making the finals. The young ones can't cut it.

With the media concentrated on the Thai boys stuck in a cave, they have ignored the fact that nearly 200 people have lost their lives in the floods in Japan. Interesting to see that guys that did the real work in that Thai cave have quietly left the scene with the Thai military taking the credit.

As for the World Cup I reckon France will win even though I don't like the attitude as their players are so self absorbed. Their young striker needs a kick up the arse even if he is talented. He is also a diver.

Well all that rain that was predicted for Melbourne didn't happen. It is all going south to Tassie. It all makes for cold mornings and even the day temps are barely getting to double figures. Hope your weekend goes well.

LeTour has not quite captured me yet this year. Usually it does 9-11pm as it here. Soccer, well you knew what was going to happen there after people started getting ahead of themselves. I had a small amount on a Croatia v Belgium final, but only got one leg in. Tennis I had the uinfortunate timing to turn on when Kyrios was playing. That was it for Wimbledon for me after seeing that.
Have to head off to Canberra next week to do something vaguely defense and political. That might bring out the cold I have been avoiding. Offers have been made to have discussions up at a ski lodge so I guess if you are going to work you might as well ski. Just means they don't want any mobile phones on.
Good old Stern Hu comes home to Australia next week I believe. That opens up a can of worms for people that have wanted to speak out but not while their ex-colleague was under arrest and in gaol. Talk on the Terrace is only about which cat is going to come out of which bag.
Once every few seasons, even a decade, you get the torrential rain in Japan. We had it just a couple of times like that in our decade there. 100mm per hour rain from system that just get stuck under the jetstream in western Japan and can't get out until a typhoon clears it. Big mountains, very short coastal plain. Even the drainage and sculpted rivers can't handle that volume for more than 5 hours. It's a pretty end of the world down that way in rural Hiroshima on the Inland Sea. Lots of Aussies are discovering summer island hopping down there, so hopefully they will get back on their feet soon.
Nice to see the VICS take action on scalping for AFL games. I hate seeing the sold out shingle after 10 mins and then weeks of inflated prices.

Give it time... rest day today and mountains start tomorrow with the Alps. It's good that everything is up in the air.. I can't wait for my late nights during the mountain stages. Porte is surely sad but I'm sure he is chasing the world champs late in the year.

I watch Le Tour every year which is about the only cycling race I watch. It has a bit of everything. Bad luck for Porte once again. He must think the race is a hoodoo for him.

Japan is on my list of places to see once I get into travel mode again. I know they don't speak much English there but that hasn't stopped me in my past travels in different parts of the world.

Wasn't much interested in Wimbledon once Federer and Rafa were out. In the end only one guy was fit enough to play. I'm not a fan of the Joker.

So which part of Defence? Wasn't aware we had any Defence property in the ski fields. Must be left over from the cold war :D

Ski fields will be all about no phones or leaks. Canberra is like a leaky ship most days. The usual balance of the states that need to be propped up with jobs and the states that will actually have to have stuff on their soil but can't be seen to being invested in, so a few creative public/private solutions as per usual.

Japan, wonderful place to visit and get off the usual track to see things. Driving the length along the Japan Sea coast, then ship and island hopping back up the Inland Sea to Osaka and Kobe is a great way to spend a few weeks.

I turned off Wimbledon when they thought it wise to to tell the womens finalists that their grand final would just have to kick off whenever the blokes finished their match.

LeTour on the cobblestones woke up my interest again.

Afternoon all,

Well I watched the World Cup and it was entertaining thank goodness. Not really a soccer fan. A bit like tennis, I find it boring unless the top teams or players are in the contest. France deserved the victory, they just have a knack of scoring goals.

So it turns out that a few of those boys from that Thai cave are illegal immigrants. Thank goodness the cave wasn't here in Australia otherwise Dutton would have them and their families deported when they left hospital. At least the Thai authorities are granting them citizenship. Will be watching Four Corners tonight to see the inside story.

Two down one still going. Le Tour is the only sport left to watch into the wee hours of the morning. I even have a Brie cheese wheel, crackers and red wine on standby for the right stage. It's mountain time! That's mountain time not mounting time... for those dyslexic people, then again after a bottle of red it could be both :D

Wasn't impressed that I had to wait thru two hours of talking to see the actual World Cup final. Switched over to Le Tour in the mean time and saw a bit of the Wimbledon final although it was obvious Anderson was not fit enough to play. They need to change the rules for the safety of the players.

Well the possum repellant worked and I managed to problem solve an issue with the rubbish bin, will see how that one works out. Now if the heater issue can be fixed without costing too much it will be a good week.

Hope the rest of your week is good for you. Still cold and chilly here in Melbourne town.

Yep those retreats away from the work place are all positive then it all turns to crap when you get back to reality. As for leaks well that won't work it will only be delayed.

I would like to visit Kyoto and see the old city and do the train trip thing top to bottom of the country. I don't have any real interest in Tokyo, would rather see the country side.

A number of riders were complaining about the cobblestones since it's a specialist thing. Makes it exciting for the viewers but as you saw it creates lots of crashes and injuries for riders who don't ride that classic race. Which is why it's only a one day race so that can recover from any injuries. Not ideal if you have another two weeks of racing to go.

That second semi final in Wimbledon was part two of the match that begun the day before so they couldn't start the Women's final first anyway. If the first semi wasn't allowed to go for over 6 hours there wouldn't of been an issue. The rules need to change for the guys or they only play three sets like the women do.

It was interesting. Probably not the sort of stuff you want debated in the corridors so I can see the need to take it elsewhere.

Kyoto is interesting, but more so on the outer edges and countryside like up at Kurama or Uji, and the parts of Kyoto state over on the far side. Central Kyoto city has its downsides of a regional city.

Matsushita (Panasonic) has been sponsoring efforts to get a multi-week cycling race from top to bottom. Somewhat hampered by only a few pro Japanese riders, but the money is there, mountains, steep grades etc. They are now talking about the years after the Olympics.

I think they are right in having it in there. The tour was getting too predictable with close times, so a bigger spread should cause more risk taking and therefore more excitement.

They just needed the guys to resume the match earlier. A final is a final, not a semi-final. Anyway happy some people are going to fall on their swords over it, a few sponsors were not happy.

having a multi week race in Japan and attracting all the world tour teams is tough due to the logistics involved. Plus UCI has been pondering upon reorganising the race calendar. Sadly, don't see a grand tour race happening in Japan.. Giro struggles financially and Le Tour well ASO has very very deep pockets.

Hi everybody nearly another week I've worked gone hope everybody is well and staying warm all the best keep smiling:)
