I have a few questions about doing an audio story...

1) Does anyone know exactly what equipment/software programs I need in order to be able to record a story?

2) I'm interested in making an audio version of a story I've already submitted to Literotica (Called "Please")...is this possible to do? Or will they not accept the same story a second time?

3) And, if anyone has any advice on how to make it great, I would love it. :)

Thanks so much. :)

I can answer the first section. You will need a sound recorder program: I can suggest using Audacity (just google for 'Audacity audio' or something). It's free and piss-easy to use.

You will also need a microphone of some shape or description. They're very cheap to buy, but you can get away with plugging a set of earphones into the microphone slot in the back of your computer and speaking into them. However the quality will not be as good as a proper microphone.

Anyone know hte answers to the other bits; would be interested to find out.

Thanks. I already have the microphone...and its good to know a free program to use for recording. :)

I did my first audio story in connection with the 2004 Survivor Contest last year. It was a bit more difficult than I had imagined.

It is hard to read a story you have written without making small, unintended changes to the words. It is also very easy to mispronounce or verbally fumble even the words you get right. Be prepared to make several attempts before you get a good recording and do not get discouraged.

Another source of problem is the cheap microphones that most people, myself included, use. The cheap microphones are very sensitive to small changes in volume and/or distance from microphone. You will need to work on maintaining a set distance of your mouth from the microphone and a consistent level of speaking volume so that the recorded result is of hearable level and clear.

Bumped, because I too would love advice on this. What makes a good audio story? Can you have two versions of the same story on Lit - an audio and a non-audio?

I added the audio to "Lustful Leeves Ch. 01" after it had already posted. You have to submit it as an edit to add, leave in same category request. PM Laurel to be sure, but that is what I did. I don't know what makes a "good" audio story, I just felt that mine was much more humorous when read aloud. Good luck to ya!

Thanks for the tips, its good stuff to know...especially since I have heard some audio stories where the sound quality is poor or it is hard to hear. I'll have to work on it and try and make sure mine won't be like that. :)

So, rather than making the whole thing a seperate time in the new category, I should edit it and change it to "text with audio"?

It's your best bet, yes. I don't know if the story would be allowed in two different categories, but Laurel was the one who told me to just edit to add audio. You don't have to change the category unless you want to, as far as I know. Mine is a chain story and as such I couldn't change the category.
