Question for the board literati: If you send in a story that you already have posted on Lit as an audio story, do you end up with two stories (one in the stories index and one in the audio index) or does the story get completely moved over to the audio index where hardly anybody will read it?

The Earl

My most often read stories are the audios. I don't call that hardly.

Sorry KM, I've never had an audio story. I don't really know that much about the readership. I just assumed that less people would go there. Sorry.

But if I recorded one of my existing stories, would there then be two copies, or would everything be moved to Audio?

The Earl

KM, I'm interested too. I don't care to submit audio but I would want to enjoy Earl's work both 'on the page' and aurally. Perdita

yeah, i was going to say that my audio story still gets me about five feedbacks a day...

EARL

Maybe you could submit the audio story, and ask for it to be re-posted rather than moved?

Okay I'm sorry. Bit of a faux pas there obviously. I won't speak on things I know nothing about again.

Hey guy

I'm always talking of things I know nothing about Earl, don't worry about it, Jesus I'm here on authors hangout and I know fuck all about writing.

Dear Earl,
Why not? I'd certainly never let a silly little thing like ignorance stop me.

Earl, darling boy:

I can't bear to see you apoligize. :(

Don't do it anymore (except where I'm concerned).

I want the deliciously arrogant lad back.

luv, Pear

Earl, if you don't speak in ignorance, how could you not learn? My best learning sessions come from a bad case of foot-in-mouth.

I would suggest that you write a shortish story, 800 to 1000 words that is mostly dialogueless. Dialogue is hard to do because you never know if you should act or what. It's easier if your narration is just narration the first time 'round.

If you made audio, your story would likely be moved. L doesn't like to post duplicates. Defeats the purpose, you know? If you could post in audio and oh, erotica couplings, why couldn't someone post in BDSM and Non-consent? It would degenerate.

A few hints:

1. Speak clearly, but don't try to kill you regional accent.

2. Speak slowly. It feels funny, but it's a lot easier to understand when you speak slowly than if you speak at a normal pace. Most of your audience will consist of Americans. There will be a very strong contingent of people who aren't native English speakers so it's difficult to understand if you speak quickly. My audio is loaded with that nasty hick accent of mine, if I spoke at my normal conversational rate...um, if I spoke at a normal conversational rate, half of my audience wouldn't understand a word of it.

3. Practice it first, get familiar with speaking the text out loud so you can figure out which sentences give you breathing problems. It also makes you sound better when you do get around to recording it.

4. Write up a form "I'm very flattered by your offer, but I don't have phone sex, even with the generous compensantion you're offering." letter. Whoring is illegal in a lot of places.

FYI, it's easier to put onto Laurel's computer if you use a CD-ROM than an analog cassette. You should run that by me first, naturally, for mastur--, er, editing purposes. Yeah, editing. Your ISP and/or free websites will give you like 10 to 15 free megs of space. You can zip it and upload it there and then put the link where Laurel can download it. This is, by far, the most efficient way to move large files since Whalemail went down.

Muffin! I am shocked and dismayed that you would sully a post of yours to these boards with humourous single entendre.

Not only did your smutticism make me smile broadly it also conjured a rather sordid image of pleasing proportions.

I'm just not used to this when I read your posts, so please warn readers before hand if you intend to do this again.

Grumpily (but smiling still) yours

NOW SOMEONE TELLS ME!!

I searched all through the "Submissions" section, and the only thing I found was an adjustable input to say whether it was prose, poetry, or audio.

So, I blocked the script in the normal ASCII.TXT box, and inserted the audio file (MP3) up the upload slot.

Laurel, or someone, should get around to writing precise instructions about submitting audio.

I would have rather entered the audio as a CD quality wav, but even as an MP3 it took half an hour to upload.

Muffie, you should extend your post here, and have it stored somewhere accessible under "SUBMITTING AUDIO DO'S AND DON'TS."

I don't have any web space anywhere. Well I probably do, but I have very little to do with my ISP, so I don't know how to get to it. Any suggestions?

Can I record to a CD and then post it?

Hrm..

I see that the FAQ has recently been changed...

in the old FAQ there were very specific instructions for how to submit an audio story, but they're not there now. But you can always ask us, you goof.

If your file is smaller than 15 megs, go here:

http://geocities.yahoo.com/

Get an account, and you can upload your files without needing to worry about FTPs or anything else. Just a yahoo name and password. You don't even have to build a page.

You can also create a CD and then snailmail it to Laurel. Address is here: http://www.literotica.com/contact.shtml

Audio tapes are best

I did all mine on audio tapes and posted them by airmail.

They do take a litle time to be posted but it is worth it. Tip. Keep a copy.

I didn't.

Trouble with snailmail is that some postal jerk can decide that it is "obscene material" and try to make a test case out of you. :(

Forget about embarrassing. That could get expensive.
