It's absolutely disgraceful the way the Tech Admins ignore all of the problems. This is not how you keep users happy. Lit is a unique site and the caretakers should pay attention. If the problem is lack of help due to the pandemic, say so. If it's apathy on their part, pass admin duties on to someone who cares, before the problems are too many or too big to deal with.

And if it's the time consuming difficulty of updating 20 year old databases and code to modern standards on a live site that still has to publish 60-100 new stories a day + everything that come with that?

I haven't been here for several years. If they've let all the maintenance or upgrading go for that long, it's their own fault, but we the users shouldn't have to lose functionality. Ultimately, the site will become useless and people will leave.

I doubt it.

Literotica's Alexa ranking = 6,860
Next closest (sexstories) = 20,318
3rd (nifty) = 24,313
4th (asstr) = 33,770

The forum profile doesn't work because it was purposely ( if hastily and with a lack of elegance ) disabled. It was disabled because updates to the site's infrastructure caused massive problems whenever anyone updated their profile from the forum.

It's not a simple matter of editing the link, as so many have incorrectly stated.

As this version of the forum software is slated to go the way of the dodo once all the backend work and important parts of the site have been upgraded, spending time fixing the forum profile for software that's on death row and accounts for a miniscule part of the traffic visiting Lit is obviously low on the priority list — with good reason.

Well, now we are getting somewhere.

If this is truly happening, have the admins ever posted about it? Seems to me that their silence speaks volumes.
It would be nice to have regular updates posted so we know what's going on and why things aren't being fixed right now. Might keep us grumblers quiet, at least for a while.

Manu posted about it at the time it happened, and attempted to repair the bridge at the time, but it proved to be a time sink that was eating him alive. At some point, priorities have to take over, and the forum is low on that list.

Thank you for your explanations. It is not apparent to someone who hasn't been on 24/7 to know what has been addressed and what has not. The search function isn't the best.

Perhaps a sticky should be posted so that others who have gripes will know why their concerns are not addressed, like the one about the Story Page feedback. But then again, maybe that would inform the people and they prefer to keep them in the dark.

Nobody reads stickies or looks back through the archives. There's one or two complaints about this on every page of this forum section. At some point, that becomes as much of a time sink as anything else.

I've linked directly to Manu's posts in the past, but reached the point where I don't feel like digging them up or creating a cut-n-paste document to save me that trouble in the future. I can empathize with what they're dealing with, having done it myself, but most people have no frame of reference to understand the time and effort required for a complete revamp like this.

So it just gets read as apathy, rather than exhaustion, and there's often little you can do to combat that impression once it sets in.

I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for improvements, or communication. If it's so exhausting, why not get more help? Isn't Lit large enough to warrant it?
Either way, I'm done with this fruitless discussion.
Good luck.

Sometimes "get more help" makes more trouble than it solves. Recruiting people means training them up in how the system works and coordinating them so they don't get in one another's way.

I have no involvement in the coding side of Literotica, but I wouldn't be particularly surprised if it's the sort of project where adding more people does not make things happen faster.

If Laurel would just post her lovely tits all of this would go away.

The site doesn't generate them enough money to want to fix it.
The Stories is the only part they really care about anymore. But again, that isn't worth fixing it to them.

I wish they would have taken the time to collect a monthly/yearly fee and made the repairs as needed. There are so many people that enjoy Lit on a daily basis, they could have easily made the money and then some.
:(

I doubt it.

Literotica's Alexa ranking = 6,860
Next closest (sexstories) = 20,318 limited access for free, payment required for full access
3rd (nifty) = 24,313 not used so can’t comment
4th (asstr) = 33,770 was hacked and off line for quite some time, database crashed, now running but a lot of the functions don’t work and a lot of stories are missing

Comments in red above are my observations only. For all its problems, Lit isn’t that bad and it’s free.

Thankful

Literotica is a fantastic site and I'm grateful for its existence. I initially came to the site for the stories and posting my writing. I've stayed for those things and more. I enjoy the Playground, the friends I've made, and the ability and freedom to come and go as I please and to share my opinions/thoughts/fantasies etc..when I chose to.

The problem is that we liked what we had and the fact that things functioned, although not perfectly at all times and maybe not as efficiently as updated software/hardware, but they worked and we liked having those options. Now, things are changing, updating, failing, and taking more time than most of us are used to or would like. It's called change and, in general, change is not accepted easily. It comes with problems and set backs.

I'm sure the Admins are doing their best to get everything back on track. As they say, hindsight is 20/20. If things could have been prevented, they would have. But shit happens.

Thanks to all of those who make Literotica work on a daily basis. You are "essential workers" to many of us!! LOL ;)

Now, please fix my story feedback/comment section so that I can write back to my readers.:rose:

Hey, it is what it is. Literotica mostly works, you get more readers here than you'll get on any other erotica website anywhere, and Laurel and Manu are working thru upgrading the site progressively. This ain't no techie startup, with venture capitalists throwing money into the bucket, a la Wattpad.

Laurel and Manu work their butts off behind the scenes, so I just say accept Literotica for what it is, be grateful for the readers, look forward to the upgrades, and enjoy writing for more readers than you'll get anywhere else :D

These days, the competition for Literotica is probably less from dedicated sex-story sites and more from places like archiveofourown (Alexa = 1753) which aren't specifically for erotica, but which are erotica-friendly and host a lot of it. Hard to gauge exactly how many Ao3 readers are there for the smut, but it'd be on the same order as total Literotica readers.

Why Lit started making changes is straight at the feet of Google. Lit wasn't cell phone friendly and Google was to the point of dropping Lit's rating. Therefore there was a rush to update the site.

This place started as a way for Laurel to read dirty stories and hobnob with her friends. All the coding was done by several different people and bubble gummed together. Spaghetti code by people who are no longer around. Now Manu must untangle the whole mess without pulling the wrong thread and crashing the whole site.

Some ancient history for all the bitchy newbies.
