Attack of the Scrooged Trolls!

Wow ... I guess I'm still pretty naive when it comes to feedback and votes!

Just when I think that my stories are doing pretty well and I'm on target with my audience, my scores suddenly plummet and they tend to do it all at the same time. Is this just the Scrooge-like Christmas trolls taking out their frustration on those around them or something far worse?

I try (honest, I do) not to let it bother me ... but the human in me, the writer that aspires to actually be good at something ... that part cringes every time I see my scores drop suddenly, drastically below where they were.

Bah humbug! I just had to get it off my chest ...

Don't worry Cyn. We've all gone through that. I've had top ranked stories hit by the trolls and suffered the human effect also.
After awhile you get use to it. Don't ask me when though! lol
The next troll hunt starts in 24 hrs. Weapons are to armed. lmao

More hugs. I am another newbie and have been going through the same struggle, and learning much from the cognoscenti here. You might get some value and speed up the learning curve by peaking at my releventposts from the last couple days, and the responses of the veterans.

Hi, this just happened to me today.

Is there a way for votes that are obviously out of the mainstream opinion to be expunged?

It seems to me that if a story gets 40 votes all in the 4 or 5 range and someone comes along and hits them with a 1, that single vote is clearly meant to knock someone down a peg and can destroy what is otherwise a good rating.

Or is an author's only recourse to suck it up and hope other folks make up for it.

It especially burns me up when people just start whacking ratings just for kicks.

I don't have a problem with people not liking something. After all, "different strokes for different folks" and all that, but it seems to me that if something isn't to your liking, the best thing to do is click on another story rather than be petty or vindictive.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

Laurel usually does troll sweeps close to monthly contest times, but if you are pretty certain you have been trolled, you can either pm her or report the suspected trolling by using the report story feature. That will usually get the votes swept.
