Okay, so there I was, sitting in a hospital room (long story and not important to my point).....my point....Did I have a point? Ahh, yes. There I was trying to write on the laptop and it seemed both my muse and my brain had taken off for Majorca and neglected to take the rest of me with them.

Then I had an Epiphany! (Don't worry, I'm not hurt.) It was just too quiet. Which got me wondering, and ultimately proved to be just another way to procrastinate, what atmosphere others write in. I have to have music apparently, or it just doesn't work.

How about you all?

*pondering and procrastinating*

I can write anywhere, but I write best in my study, surouned by my things with something on the tele in the background. Exactly what is usually not important although the most common is a disney movie. Sometimes music helps, but often times I get caught up in the tune and find I stopped writing back when the chorus started :0

Like you love, I have to have music, and it needs to be mood music that my kind of mood, not the story genre/mood.

I usually write with the appropriate MP3 collection on the WinAmp playlist buzzing away out of the PC speakers.

This also applies to posting at Lit, like as in 'now':)

I've just listened to the whole 12 minutes of 'Anything for Love' by Meatloaf and 'Starman' by Bowie is on now, next if I remember right is 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen. That should give you a clue to my mood tonight, hehe!! PS: If you sort it let me know I aint got a clue.:D :rose:

pops.............:D :rose:

I have to add one bit. My dog is demanding at least honorable mention since she is of the opinion I can't write without one foot numb. Said foot being numb, due to her sleeping on it.
(until she realized she wasn't mentioned, when she started chewing on it)

Ps. Anyone have a spare tourniquet?

My favorite way to write erotica is...

To put my rainforest CD on, and have the lover on his knees between my legs lapping at my pantied crotch as I type at breakneck speeds. I usually only get a page done before we head off to bed where I can reciprocate in comfort. And I always have to edit like crazy when I go back to the story, but by then I know what I want to say, and the sound of rain, and thunderstorms on the CD remind me of what me and my lover are going to do, or just did.

You into water sports then honey, giggle:D  don't forget your raincoat.

serious honey, i just love that soft mood music, rainforest, sea sounds, and light classical stuff like soft strings and that.

Well, not having D. Slut's accoutrements I settle for music, usually opera, and just set against a few pillows in bed (alone) with my paralyzed and faithful lapdog.

Perdita ;)

Depends...

If I have my focus with me, I write best in silence, usually without enough sleep to tell the truth. However, sometimes, silence leaves me with nothing but my own thoughts, and when they won't let me write, I need music to keep them at bay. What type of music isn't always that important, so long as there's sound outside of my head.

I've never been able to write in anything but complete silence.

I tend to write while it's quiet. I've tried writing while talking on the phone...that REALLY did not work. I've also tried writing with music. Some music I can write to - instrumental, soft, etc. Throwing my Static-X CDs on is usually hinders my efforts more than my Men Without Hats discs. :)

I also generally write at night; it must be something about the darkness that helps me focus. I may try writing by candlelight next time. I love reading by the flickering of a flame, so perhaps writing would be similar?

Writing in my underwear is definately a must. It's hard for me to relax in jeans and boots, and if I'm not relaxed, I can't get my fingers to do anything, let alone type out the few thoughts milling about in my head.

I would like to say that I write best in complete silence. But that wouldn't be true, because I type best om ny 'puter and my 'puter sounds like an incoming 747.

No music though. People, dogs, cats, kids, explosions and gunfire, sure. But no music. I can't stand listening to music I don't like, and when I hear music I do like I want to listen instead of write.

Needs to be quiet. I write best at night but somehow I can't get near the computer at night. Ohh... and I can't write without the puter. I shudder to think what a page would look like if I tried to write longhand as I edit while writing.

I can write under virtually any conditions. Anything ranging from complete silence all the way up to all out war in my house, I guess we just get accustomed to our usual surroundings. The usual state of affairs in my house is 'noisy' to say the least, but it does have its moments.

My idea of writing utopia is having the house to myself, except for my dog and cats. I will happily sit at my computer for hours with my music playing, again this ranges from the most sublte classical piece all the way up to full out hardcore trance. It matters not what kind of music, what matters is I like it. Typically my doggy will be at my feet (much like you, Whisper) and one of my cats (usually Leah) will be asleep on the back of the armchair next to me. I find it so relaxing having my pets close to me, Leah is always appreciative of a little stroke and cuddle, and her purring is comforting.

Lou, going off on a daydream...

Most of the time I like to write in silence, though sometimes some nice background music is good as long as it is sort of mellow. One of my latest favories for this is the "About a Boy" sountrack by Badly Drawn Boy.

I also like to write in coffeeshops... I can really concentrate there sunk into a comfy chair by the fire. The only distraction may be if their music is too loud or just sort of conflicting with my writing mood.

I think I may have to try it Dirty Slut's way though.... wow!
:)
