At least 77 shot, 13 fatally, in Chicago July 4th weekend violence

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago's July 4th holiday marked the third straight weekend that a child has fallen victim to gun violence in the city.

Since Friday at 5 p.m., at least 77 people were shot in Chicago. Thirteen of the victims have died, including 7-year-old Natalie Wallace who was fatally shot in Austin Saturday night.

The child was visiting her grandmother's home for a family gathering when she was shot and killed.

Police said she was playing outside when a white vehicle pulled up and three suspects got out, firing more than 20 shots.

Need a larger police presence in gangland, take over gangland, establish security to such a degree as to allow citizens to feel safe rating these fucking gangs out of existence.

Double police presence to include DEA, FBI, ICE and national guard.

Political Leadership need to put their pride aside and work with Trump on fed funding and manning of a whole range of programs starting with an increase presence in schools ( gang incubators ). Clergy, parents and police working together.

Stop and frisk! Stiff penalties for firearm violations and leave the fuckers in jail. Follow mandatory sentencing guidelines.

Smith walked out of the courthouse shortly after 11 a.m. and headed home for lunch with his wife and child. An hour later, he was dead. A gunman fired nine rounds into Smith in front of his suburban Chicago home as his 3-year-old son stood along the kitchen window. Bullets ripped into Smith's head, neck, chest and pelvis.

His case illustrates how the state's bond system has become a revolving door for the defendants who pose the greatest threat to public safety: violent gang members arrested on gun charges.

A Tribune analysis of five years of booking data at Cook County Jail found that at least 1 in 10 of those who were arrested and bonded out on gun charges committed serious crimes within a year — then bonded out of jail yet again. The vast majority of suspects were arrested on new gun charges.
