Update: My impression is that the immediate crisis has abated. Furthermore my impression is that AS may not return soon (or ever) but that he has regained some measure of peace and happiness.

If you unofficially talk to him, let him know that we wish him well. From what I've seen and heard, he's been an excellent mentor, coach and editor to a number of authors and his presence will be sorely missed.
