Asus Laptops?

ASUS makes quality stuff. The motherboard on the PC I built is ASUS.

One thing I'd recommend though is using www.newegg.com for computer purchases. Works great for typically cheaper. Plus the reviews from the community there are really helpful.

Good luck!

Yeah, newegg is worth looking at.

I've been getting my toshibas from Best Buy (In store, or on line...), but you do have to catch them at the right time. Last one came from newegg, tho...

Example: Here's a $400 toshiba...

I'm keeping an eye on newegg, but I'm definitely anxious to see what comes out of Best Buy Sunday, even though I'd rather not spend my money there.

Having a dual core processor is important to me, so it doesn't look like that Toshiba would work, but I do see an Asus for $499 on newegg that looks pretty good, so that might be my backup.

OK, well I checked out everything available locally and on sale today, and finally decided to go with this Asus from NewEgg. I would have been thrilled with a $399 price, but HP's and crappy processors were all that I could get at that point NewEgg is giving me what appears to be a great computer that'll meet all of my needs, along with free 3-day shipping, no sales tax (which saves about $60) and a free 1-year accidental warranty, so I'm a happy camper.

Thanks for all of your ideas, everyone; the feedback really helped me make my decision! :rose:

Looks like a nice little unit.

Of course, now that it's on it's way... ...with a laptop a lot of the life comes in how you handle it. Having worked in a computer shop for some years (doing laptop warranty work) you learn that flexing them is hard on them. I'm very picky about mine, and they last a long time. I know some people who are not as careful, and they buy a new laptop every year. :(

I always use two hands to move them, very rarely set them on end (in a bag, etc), and usually use them on a flat surface (lap desk, table, etc.). When in a vehicle they are placed flat on a seat next to me. I don't place anything on top of them. I'm also very careful with anything sticking out of them. Power,USB, and Firewire connectors can damage main boards easily...

Have fun with your new toy!

I'm using the Asus right now, and so far, I like it a lot. The mouse took a little figuring out and I'm not used to having a numeric keypad on the keyboard, but everything seems great.
