I had an idea to try and convert one of my SRP into a story, yet I'm not sure as how to go about it without being guilty of plagiarism. Haven't really written stories before and could do with a few hints as well.

Well you could simply get permission from the person or person's who helped do the thread and post it as a story broken up into different characters.

Alternately you can take the whole idea of the story and rewrite it in from the view of one character and simply describe the things done to her or him as they happen in the thread.

Though really the big thing is to find an editor. Someone who can find all the bad spelling and bad grammar use. ;)

Feh. Editors. An author who doesn't also have editing skills is like a chef who doesn't know how to turn on his own oven. Learn to edit your own stories!......Carney (just expressing my own opinion; YMMV)

Emap: Thanks I'll give it some thought. The idea of a one-person perspective especially.

Carnevil: That's really my major problem...Haven't learned what is important or not, and I'm really having a hard time 'killing my darlings'

There are as many ways to write this as there are writers. Point of View, Focus and Plot are ijust as important as spelling and grammar.

In a way, all stories are SRPs in one way or another. So that isn't a problem at all.

Just don't ask me to edit. I have a major problem with past and present tense. Ask snoopy when he comes back, I tend to switch between the two without trying.

It's a good idea to keep your tenses straight, but I have noticed there are times when doing the opposite is appropriate.

"When the movie started, he was enjoying the movie and eating his popcorn."
You wouldn't say "When the movie started, he enjoyed the movie having eaten his popcorn."

People, please install and use your spell checker when writing a story.

Funny, I didn't hear anything when I typed it, and I didn't say it aloud either. So what did you hear? :p

Notify the people involved of your intention and ask if they have any objections. Re-write the narrative to format it for a story and make a note at the beginning that your story was inspired by an SRP thread in which other authors (name them) participated. Thank them for their kind permission to use their ideas in your story. Most people won't be at all difficult about this and will be excited that you are going to use their material in a story. If someone is snarky... move on to another idea.

As far as hints go, I've read your threads and I don't think you need much guidance. Spell check, run it past test readers who will offer real comments (not just 'great story!' yes-men), try to work with an editor who can offer real suggestions regarding story structure.

I heard all those rusty cog wheels moving in your head as you thought about it.

APOLOGY to Lady_Mornington for thread asides.

Seriously, Lady M, if you need a critical eye cast over it, my pedigree is at http://english.literotica.com:81/editors/editorpage.php?uid=216094 and if you think I am a suitable editor, please feel free to send your story to me.

Oh well then I am improving, or getting older, I used to have noisy springs to.

Oh and bad snoopy, slutting your butt around like this. :p

Lady I would recommend taking snoopy up on his offer, he is good at it. He turns my drivel into readable stories. ;)
