What year was the flood and how could all the human races come from Noah, his three sons and their wives?

Population

Let us consider the growth rate of our human population to determine whether the Bible's account of man'screation only 6000 years ago, or the evolutionary scientists account of man's evolution over one million is consistent with known scientific data. According to the Scriptures, eight people comprising four couples survived the great Flood approximately 4300 years ago as described in biblical chronology. To be conservative, we will make these calculations assuming that mankind started 4300 years ago with only one surviving couple and that all families produced only 2.5 children on average over the centuires. this rate of population growth is much slower than we experinced this century. If families produced only 2 chiuldrem on average then the conservative assumption of an average of 2.5 children per family will account for nautral depletion caused by war, famine, and disease. throughout history the average life span has last only 43 yers per generation . Using these assumptions, during the last 4300 years, there would have been one hundred generations lasting 43 years each. The calculations reveal that our population would have growm from the time of the flood till today to reach approxiamately 5 billion people.. it is fascinating to note that the earths population today 5.5 billion worlds wide is almost identical with what we would expect if mankind began repopulating the earth after the Flood 4300 years ago.

But Todd, if the Jews were the ones having written the Old Testament, don't you think they of all people would know what they meant by messiah?

Mithra, in case you've not looked it up, was a diety from another popular cult in Rome. Supposedly, Mithra was himself born of a virgin on December 25th, only in the year 600BC. Mithra was a Syrian offshoot of Zorastrianism, which I'm sure you know contained many of the sacraments that are associated with Christianity. Those include, baptism, a sacramental meal, belief in immortality, a savior god who died and was ressurected, a last judgement, and heaven and hell. Any thoughts?

DOH! I should of remembered that, What was I thinking, bust have been sniffing to many gold leaf bible pages again.

I admit I haven't done a lot of research into them, but what I do recall was the guy was wanting a military/polotical messiah.

As for why wouldn't the Jews haivng written the Old testament recognize a spiritual messiah definition over a politivcal/military messiah. Well Thinking as a BC jew who was and knweew his race had been for the past 4000+ years the whipping post nation of the world, by the time of Christ, they probably were looking for a messiah to come and kick some bibleical @$$ allover the place. Unfortunely the prophecies shown that the Jews in 4000+ as mankind in 6000+ years hadn't yet learned the lesson of fellowship and obedience.

I was hoping you would address how the many different races came about from these 4 couples.

I'm new around here and truely enjoy reading your post. You make life interesting around here but I must admit this warm and fuzzy Todd kinda' scares me a little. Do you do this Q&A often or is this a one shot deal???

Do you personally believe in hell?
Why or why not???

Well this is the first time I have done this, but Ilike the result so I may do it a bit more often. And when Wasn't I warm and fuzzy ?

Yes I beleive in Hell? Why? well actually when I was an athiest I had a near death experince and while in that state, I didn't see the traditional white light syndrome. I went to hell, expereinced the torment, the burning, the pain, the darkness, even had marks that the doctors watched appeared on my body that looked like claw welts and burning hand prints.

Did that experience convert me? Nope, Continued my merry way, And started an odeessey to disprove all religion and find some logical reason why diuring a time doctors declared me clinically dead, this happened to me.

9 years later became a born again.

this is a two parted Todd

1) Why don't fish fly?

2) Why don't birds (excluding penguins) swim?

1> There are several species of Flying fish, well actually they make staggeringly huge leaps from the water and with the size and shape of there fins do seem to glide quite a distance before gravity takes over. i saw it on the animal kingdom.

2> There are some birds that will fly really high and then make a dive bomb and swim up to 100 feet under water for fishys. Some how thier eyesight can see the fish and discenr its location even with refraction to make the dive. I also saw this on animal kingdom.

Noah

1. Rest, (Heb. Noah) the grandson of Methuselah #Ge 5:25-29 who was for two hundred and fifty years contemporary with Adam, and the son of Lamech, who was about fifty years old at the time of Adam’s death. This patriarch is rightly regarded as the connecting link between the old and the new world. He is the second great progenitor of the human family. The words of his father Lamech at his birth #Ge 5:29 have been regarded as in a sense prophetical, designating Noah as a type of Him who is the true "rest and comfort" of men under the burden of life #Mt 11:28 He lived five hundred years, and then there were born unto him three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth #Ge 5:32 He was a "just man and perfect in his generation, " and "walked with God" (comp.) #Eze 14:14,20 But now the descendants of Cain and of Seth began to intermarry, and then there sprang up a race distinguished for their ungodliness. Men became more and more corrupt, and God determined to sweep the earth of its wicked population #Ge 6:7 But with Noah God entered into a covenant, with a promise of deliverance from the threatened deluge #Ge 6:18. He was accordingly commanded to build an ark #Ge 6:14-16 for the saving of himself and his house. An interval of one hundred and twenty years elapsed while the ark was being built #Ge 6:3 during which Noah bore constant testimony against the unbelief and wickedness of that generation #1Pe 3:18-20 2Pe 2:5 When the ark of "gopher-wood" (mentioned only here) was at length completed according to the command of the Lord, the living creatures that were to be preserved entered into it; and then Noah and his wife and sons and daughters-in-law entered it, and the "Lord shut him in" #Ge 7:16 The judgment-threatened now fell on the guilty world, "the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished" #2Pe 3:6 The ark floated on the waters for one hundred and fifty days, and then rested on the mountains of Ararat #Ge 8:3,4 but not for a considerable time after this was divine permission given him to leave the ark, so that he and his family were a whole year shut up within it #Ge 7:11 8:13-14 On leaving the ark Noah’s first act was to erect an altar, the first of which there is any mention, and offer the sacrifices of adoring thanks and praise to God, who entered into a covenant with him, the first covenant between God and man, granting him possession of the earth by a new and special charter, which remains in force to the present time #Ge 8:21-22 9:1-17 As a sign and witness of this covenant, the rainbow was adopted and set apart by God, as a sure pledge that never again would the earth be destroyed by a flood. But, alas! Noah after this fell into grievous sin #Ge 9:21 and the conduct of Ham on this sad occasion led to the memorable prediction regarding his three sons and their descendants. Noah "lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years, and he died" #Ge 9:29 See DELUGE 24011

Shem

A name; renown, the first mentioned of the sons of Noah #Ge 5:32 6:10 He was probably the eldest of Noah’s sons. The words "brother of Japheth the elder" in #Ge 10:21 are more correctly rendered "the elder brother of Japheth, " as in the Revised Version. Shem’s name is generally mentioned first in the list of Noah’s sons. He and his wife were saved in the ark #Ge 7:13 Noah foretold his preeminence over Canaan #Ge 9:23-27 He died at the age of six hundred years, having been for many years contemporary with Abraham, according to the usual chronology. The Israelitish nation sprang from him #Ge 11:10-26 1Ch 1:24-27

Ham

Warm, hot, and hence the south; also an Egyptian word meaning "black", the youngest son of Noah #Ge 5:32 comp. #Ge 9:22,24 The curse pronounced by Noah against Ham, properly against Canaan his fourth son, was accomplished when the Jews subsequently exterminated the Canaanites. One of the most important facts recorded in #Ge 10:1ff. is the foundation of the earliest monarchy in Babylonia by Nimrod the grandson of Ham #Ge 10:6,8,10. The primitive Babylonian empire was thus Hamitic, and of a cognate race with the primitive inhabitants of Arabia and of Ethiopia. The race of Ham were the most energetic of all the descendants of Noah in the early times of the post-diluvian world.

See ACCAD 23060

Japheth

Wide spreading: "God shall enlarge Japheth" (Heb. Yaphat Elohim le-Yephet, #Ge 9:27 Some, however, derive the name from _yaphah_, "to be beautiful; " hence white), one of the sons of Noah, mentioned last in order #Ge 5:32 6:10 7:13 perhaps first by birth #Ge 10:21 comp. #Ge 9:24 He and his wife were two of the eight saved in the ark #1Pe 3:20 He was the progenitor of many tribes inhabiting the east of Europe and the north of Asia #Ge 10:2-5 An act of filial piety #Ge 9:20-27 was the occasion of Noah’s prophecy of the extension of his posterity. After the Flood the earth was re-peopled by the descendants of Noah, "the sons of Japheth" #Ge 10:2 "the sons of Ham" #Ge 10:6 and "the sons of Shem" #Ge 10:22. It is important to notice that modern ethnological science, reasoning from a careful analysis of facts, has arrived at the conclusion that there is a three-fold division of the human family, corresponding in a remarkable way with the great ethnological chapter of the book of Genesis 10. The three great races thus distinguished are called the Semitic, Aryan, and Turanian (Allophylian). "Setting aside the cases where the ethnic names employed are of doubtful application, it cannot reasonably be questioned that the author [of] #Ge 10:1ff. has in his account of the sons of Japheth classed together the Cymry or Celts (Gomer), the Medes (Madai), and the Ionians or Greeks (Javan), thereby anticipating what has become known in modern times as the ‘Indo-European Theory, ‘or the essential unity of the Aryan (Asiatic) race with the principal races of Europe, indicated by the Celts and the Ionians. Nor can it be doubted that he has thrown together under the one head of ‘children of Shem’ the Assyrians (Asshur), the Syrians (Aram), the Hebrews (Eber), and the Joktanian Arabs (Joktan), four of the principal races which modern ethnology recognizes under the heading of ‘Semitic.’ Again, under the heading of ‘sons of Ham, ‘the author has arranged ‘Cush’, i.e., the Ethiopians; ‘Mizraim, ‘the people of Egypt; ‘Sheba and Dedan, ‘or certain of the Southern Arabs; and ‘Nimrod, ‘or the ancient people of Babylon, four races between which the latest linguistic researches have established a close affinity" (Rawlinson’s Hist. Illustrations).

Those four variants{possibly 4 more, the wives not recorded thier variance,} couple with migration and climatic microevolution explain to the various human beings we see today.

Job would be akin to the time of Abraham both being preflood, when Mankind and dinosaurs walked the earth {Oh vey! He didn't really say man and dinosaurs again did he?} See Levithan and Behemouth Job 40 & 41.

Links for the above all info on the names come from the program Online bible, they write it up much nicer than I.

Todd i'm not in any position to say who walked with what.

would you like a copy of my foot, a dollar bill and a very large human foot print in marblized limestone?:D

Nope to the copy of a foot are a human foot marbleized in limestone but how about that dollar is it still up for donation? ;)

I doubt that you will find foot prints of each walking with each other {man and dinasaur} dinosaur foot prints are large leaving a good depth but even at 11-12 foot man does not leave a very lasting foot print.

ok, i did ask. I did not step back and get all the rest of the dino prints around it in the same pic and my 35mm does not do it justice anyway you have to look close to make out the toes, but i remember it well... it is not an apes footprint.

there is a good forgery of man and dinosaur prints walking side by each in texas. Sadly a bunch of creationists latched unto it as the answer with out ever going and investigating to there err. they were jumping at the hope for proof. I beleive in mexico there is another good forgery of a human skelton withing a t-rex skelton.

So what were you doing that deserved a trip to hell on your NDE? And is it enough to be a good Jew or Muslim, Hindu or atheist, or are they all going to hell?

I don't knwo what I did that deserved a trip to hell, I didn't even believe in a hell before it happened, I was a good little athiest, making fun and mocking the local religions.

Depends on what your spiritual standpoint is of who goes who stays, and even with in one denomination or relgion there can be many varying and differing views.

Within christianity {protestant/catholic christianity} there are many varying views. Even taking it down a notch with in the smaller denominational devisions of christianity there are different views.

For example. I attend baptist and athere are some baptist that beleive the good old fashioned heaven and hell concept, there are some that beleive there is no actual hell, there are some that beleive there is no actual heaven and there are some that beleive there is no actual either one and that death is just an emalgamation back into the whole. Some dismiss hell as merely a seperation from God.

If floowing the bible through on a theme of hell, it does not look like there is room for being good enough to not go to hell, it seems clear old testament and new that through the blood of messaih/jesus is the only way.

I know it sounds creul and it is saddening if you accept it especially when you try and share your belief with loved ones and even though they are good people never make the choice and realize that they have no other option but hell, it is very heartbreaking. My mother is at a state, "Well your bible is all good and fine, but I am a good person I won't go in hell."

Its grounds like this that really make me in a way hope the bible is wrong, but if it isn't what recourse is there.

The only loophole if you could call it that is "age of accountability/understanding" there does seem to be a fine blurry line of were children will not be damned in hell that cannot yet understand the difference and able to make a choice. The thing that scares me so much about this is things that churches have going such as goodnews clubs, pioneers, daily vaction bible school, which play the numbers game of, "how many kids can we get to say yes." this truely is scary in the fact that the effort to explian to the kid what he is saying yes too is very nile and the focus is on getting the child to say yes.

Why is the sky blue?

When you look at some part of the sky away from the sun, the light you see from the sky is sunlight that has been scattered toward your eyes by air molecules. The sunlight induces wiggling dipoles in the molecules, causing them to emit light in directions different from the original direction of the light.

The molecules of air scatter higher-frequency light waves more strongly than they do lower frequencies. To your eyes and brain, this makes the scattered light look blue rather than white.

This scattering also makes the sunset appear red or orange.

Pictures taken on Mars by various robot probes show a sky in shades of orange, pink and tan. This is because the atmosphere of Mars is very thin and dusty. Scattering is dominated not by gas molecules but by reddish dust particles.

Ok, so I do'nt think you really gave me your thoughts on Mithra and Zorastrianism, but I'll deal with it.

How come Jesus was called the Nazorean, seeing as how there is no record of the town of Nazareth in existence up until the Bible, (let's face facts, the Romans kept great records)?

Also, did you know that the word, "Nasrani" means "lots of little fish" and that it is the Arab word for Christians? Did you also know that some scholars put the term Nazorean as a name for a sect of Judiaism around the time of Jesus?

Sorry for holding back comment on Mirtha, but rather than make presumption and speak I will hold comment until i know more.

As for the Nazerth is this what you were getting at:

Nazareth

Separated, generally supposed to be the Greek form of the Hebrew _netser_, a "shoot" or "sprout." Some, however, think that the name of the city must be connected with the name of the hill behind it, from which one of the finest prospects in Palestine is obtained, and accordingly they derive it from the Hebrew _notserah_, i.e., one guarding or watching, thus designating the hill which overlooks and thus guards an extensive region. This city is not mentioned in the Old Testament. It was the home of Joseph and Mary #Lu 2:39 and here the angel announced to the Virgin the birth of the Messiah #Lu 1:26-28 Here Jesus grew up from his infancy to manhood #Lu 4:16 and here he began his public ministry in the synagogue #Mt 13:54 at which the people were so offended that they sought to cast him down from the precipice whereon their city was built #Lu 4:29 Twice they expelled him from their borders #Lu 4:16-29 #Mt 13:54-58 and he finally retired from the city, where he did not many mighty works because of their unbelief #Mt 13:58 and took up his residence in Capernaum. Nazareth is situated among the southern ridges of Lebanon, on the steep slope of a hill, about 14 miles from the Sea of Galilee and about 6 west from Mount Tabor. It is identified with the modern village en-Nazirah, of six or ten thousand inhabitants. It lies "as in a hollow cup" lower down upon the hill than the ancient city. The main road for traffic between Egypt and the interior of Asia passed by Nazareth near the foot of Tabor, and thence northward to Damascus. It is supposed from the words of Nathanael in #Joh 1:46 that the city of Nazareth was held in great disrepute, either because, it is said, the people of Galilee were a rude and less cultivated class, and were largely influenced by the Gentiles who mingled with them, or because of their lower type of moral and religious character. But there seems to be no sufficient reason for these suppositions. The Jews believed that, according to #Mic 5:2 the birth of the Messiah would take place at Bethlehem, and nowhere else. Nathanael held the same opinion as his countrymen, and believed that the great "good" which they were all expecting could not come from Nazareth. This is probably what Nathanael meant. Moreover, there does not seem to be any evidence that the inhabitants of Galilee were in any respect inferior, or that a Galilean was held in contempt, in the time of our Lord. (See Dr. Merrill’s Galilee in the Time of Christ.) The population of this city (now about 10,000) in the time of Christ probably amounted to 15,000 or 20,000 souls. "The so-called ‘Holy House’ is a cave under the Latin church, which appears to have been originally a tank. The ‘brow of the hill’, site of the attempted precipitation, is probably the northern cliff: the traditional site has been shown since the middle ages at some distance to the south. None of the traditional sites are traceable very early, and they have no authority. The name Nazareth perhaps means ‘a watch tower’ (now en-Nasrah), but is connected in the New Testament with Netzer, ‘a branch’ #Isa 4:2 Jer 23:5 Zec 3:8 6:12 Mt 2:23 Nazarene being quite a different word from Nazarite."
