WASHINGTON (AP) — Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leading a congressional delegation to Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras to meet with government and civic leaders amid the crisis of migrants at the southern border.

Pelosi said Thursday the lawmakers look forward to "strengthening our partnership." She said the delegation will honor the "enormous contributions" that generations of immigrants from the region have made to the U.S.

I've never "drama queened" over any of these shootings. I look, I digest, I move on. Just another day in this country and for humanity. No big deal.

I don't know whether you were being sarcastic there but you did swerve into a truth. In the grand scheme of things it isn't a big deal. Absolutely devastating for the families and close friends, hard on the community as well. Such is the nature of all senseless violent acts.

And that is the reason that acts such as we were subjected to this past week provoke such strong emotions. The human mind wants to make sense out of such acts. One of the reasons that no one pays much attention to the slaughter going on in the inner cities, it's gang related over turf or respect. While we don't like it, or approve of it, it has a motive. In a very dark way it makes sense.

But these random acts against individuals who have caused no offense make no sense at all. It confounds our sense of order. We are left struggling to assign a reason, a motive that we can accept. The facts are that you/we are trying to get inside the head of a deranged individual. We are trying to make sense out of nonsense and that alone leads us down the path of nonsense.

I don't suggest that we should accept these events, they are unacceptable. But I do assert that restricting the sane so as to accommodate the insane is also unacceptable. I have yet to hear any valid argument as to why I should surrender my liberties because someone else abused theirs.
