Lady Kathleen Savoy was born into a privileged life in the heart of England. Her heritage was a mixture of English and Irish, and her red hair, green eyes, and fair skin reflected it. Her height was about 5 feet 4 inches tall, with an above average chest, and a tiny waist. What she was missing in height she made up with temperament and intellect.
Much of her early childhood was spent in boarding schools, and exploring whatever interests tickled her fancy. The times dictated that she married off to a man of means and provided him with heirs. His fortune would combine with hers and so their dynasty should flourish. But Katie had other plans, through her studies she gained a fascination with history, and their relics.
Because of her status in society she was allowed to pursue her degree in Archaeology. Although she would never be allowed to be hired by a museum as one. When she first met Dr. Stern. He scoffed at a woman in his studies. But she soon proved to him that her mind was brighter and she was more capable than 98% of the male students in his class.
She became fond of her Mentor Dr. Stern, and assisted him all over the globe on his projects. Sadly she was pulled back to England, to deal with the affairs of her parents after their untimely death. It was an eye opener to a world primarily held for men, with no remaining family members it was now on her shoulders to manage the renters and ensure the estate was correctly taken care of.
It had been two years since she had lived the life she was carving out for herself, when a package arrived for her. The return address was that of a solicitor that she had vaguely heard of. Sitting at her antique redwood desk she opened it. Inside were a box and two letters.
Dear Lady Savoy,
Enclosed you will find an artifact bequeathed to you from the Estate of Dr. Stern. It was his wish that you have this rare piece he acquired from a dig in Cairo, Egypt. In my opinion it is an offensive piece, and most certainly not be given to a lady. Please also find enclosed a letter he left for you as well.
She had no idea that he had passed or was even ill. Opening up the second letter she read it wiping the tears from her eyes.
Dear Katie,
If you have received this letter then I am no longer with you. I have been exposed to a virus in the Congo, and I’m not sure if I’ll recover. One of my greatest achievements in life has been training you to follow in my footsteps. I know that you’ve left the life you started to shoulder the responsibilities of your families’ estate. But do not lose yourself in a life you have no love for. You have a gift of uncovering and locating lost treasures.
I had a dream Dear Katie, that I should give this to you. Perhaps it’s a small piece to a larger puzzle, perhaps it’s just a trinket. Please do not think badly of me for sending this to you. If I hadn't had the dream, I would have never sent you such a thing. Do yourself the favor of finding out.
With appreciation for your skills and the passion that lives in your heart,
Dr. Stern
Placing the letter down she picked up the box and began to unwrap the artifact that hung from a short leather string. “oh my” she said out loud examining the artifact. The item was a double ended phallus. Nothing in her wildest dream would have prepared her to receive such an item.
Society view alone would refuse to show this in a museum, much less have it given to a woman, unless perhaps it was a deviant of some nature. But even then.
Taking it by the string she placed the piece on her desk and took out her magnifying glass. By the time she was done she anticipated the item was approximately aged between 700-200 BC. She had done quite a lot of research into the gods and meanings in relics. It was definitely an artifact. But what was its significance? For whom was it made for?
Feeling a bit drained she retired early to bed. It was there the dreams that images began to take her on a journey.
