post-Apocalyptic sex fiction.
Not the total end of Earth necessarily* but the end of civilization as we know it.
Is this an avenue to explore the breakdown of the incest taboo?
What if you don't know who your bio-dad is???
Does sexual selection change to desperation?
Does monogamy increase or decrease?
What about polygamy within a "tribe"?
No doubt avid readers of apocalyptic fiction can come up with others...

* another interesting twist is the astronauts alive on the space station, and how they react...

I could see it decreasing in a low birth rate situation. So poly situations would be more advantageous.
Especially if the societal breakdown has also led to a decrease in technology. No way to tell who is the problem with fertility, so best to sleep with as many people as you can in the hopes of having kids.

There is a series along this line, Quaranteam written by Corrupting Powers. https://www.literotica.com/s/quaranteam-ch-01-10

This series is long, and he has others that accompany it. Plus there are a few other authors here on Lit who are working their own variations of this concept, in concert with Corrupting Powers.

Basically, there is a virus that threatens the end of the world, and a vaccine that while imperfect, is workable. It's a harem based story with polyamory. But no incest that I've seen.

I could see a Mad Max type scenario, where everyone is fatalistic enough to know that life is short and unpleasant, so you might as well have as much sex with as many partners as possible, since you could be dead before sunrise.

I could also see a scenario where nobody knows who their relatives are, giving rise to lots of inbreeding and all sorts of genetic mutations with bizarre, and possibly extremely erotic, aberrations to their body types, leading to lots of very interesting twists on how sex works.

The possibilities are endless!

For the love of SirHugs.

The text that I just deleted, under protest, was a story idea based on the original words in SirHugs original post. it analyses the consequences of a slow, insidious societal collapse, which leaves humanity in isolated pockets facing extreme survival demands. The disintegration of social structures and the severe shortage of prospective partners force a radical re-evaluation of basic sexual and relationship norms.

Key themes explored include:

Challenging the Incest Taboo: The desperate need for procreation and companionship, coupled with the confusion of family lines, pressures survivors to overcome long-held taboos.
Utilitarian Sexual Selection: Attraction shifts from emotional connection to primal necessity; mates are chosen based on physical strength, hunting ability, and the capacity to protect the group.
Redefining Marriage Structures: Traditional monogamy becomes an antique luxury. Survival needs may necessitate the establishment of polygamous or communal mating systems to maximize reproductive capacity and ensure the continuity of the population.

So there’s a series that I despise the conclusion to BUT I think the premise could give you what you want:

One day, everyone on earth gets amnesia. And this isn’t even your fantasy style amnesia where they just forget who they and the other people in the home are, people forget how to operate complex machinery, how to read, etc.

So in this world which is slowly relearning itself, new connections form. A couple that was on the outs find a new life now free of the stressors from the past. Incest could occur but I’d say other taboos: boss and employee, student and teacher, priest and confessor, etc.

There could also be silver linings: people who were in the closet now may not know who they are but they also no longer have pressure to hide, racism is also forgotten, class, nationalities, everyone just ekes out a way to live and figure out what to do with a crumbling world
