Gabrielle Giffords was holding a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a local Safeway this morning when she and at least 6 other people were shot. She was taken to the hospital, her condition unknown. The gunman is supposedly in custody. If this event had been in Central Tucson, instead of on the northwest side, I would have been there. WTF is going on in this country?

According to a press conference at UMC, G G was shot in the head, "through and through". She is out of surgery, in recovery, following commands. A nine year-old child is one of the victims who died at the hospital. The shooter was tackled by bystanders, and is in custody, talking to the FBI. He is a 22 year-old local resident with a criminal history.

The three youtube vids paint a vivid portrait of a paranoid individual for sure. But even paranoid psychotics can and do get ideas from popular figures' comments and we're not talking about random once-in-a-while comments here-- we're talking about a constant stream of shoot-em-in-the head rhetoric.

A second person has been arrested and the feds are searching for a third. They might also be part of the one half of one percent of psychotics. Anything is possible.

US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is in a critical condition after being shot in the head while a nine-year-old girl and at least two others have been killed after an assailant opened fire as the Democrat was meeting constituents in Arizona, congressional officials said.

The officials said one of the victims, an aide to Ms Giffords, died soon after the attack and others injured in the attack were taken to a nearby hospital. A US Marshal confirmed that district Judge John Roll also died.

One official added the attack was carried out with an automatic weapon. US Capitol police say the gunman, who has been identified as Jared Laughner, is in custody.

The FBI and local law enforcement officials are investigating the attack, which took place while Ms Giffords was greeting constituents outside a shop in Tucson.

A doctor at the hospital in Tucson said a girl aged around nine was killed in the shooting and there were five others in a critical condition.

Out of curiosity, why is she described as a "Blue Dog Dem" in the title to this thread? She voted for Obamacare.
