I wanted to see, out of sheer curiosity, whose parents are still with us.

Mother alive and driving me insane, stepfather dead, bio dad unknown, and I like gum, but not wintergreen flavor.
Gum? Not a chance; it might pull out my dentures.
Both parents alive and doing quite well, though my father is clearly on his way to a long slow dance with Alzheimer.
My dad died in '94, just short of his 71st birthday. I spent the night calling family members asking for input on the R/DNR order, transmitting "DNR" to the hospital, and getting the call a couple hours later he was gone. Two hours after that, I was up and getting ready to go teach another day of school. The only reason I gave a shit about him dying was that I was exhausted all damn day because it took until 2 a.m. to get a consensus from the family (his sister, my mom, his current gf, my brother, his sister-in-law, and me). If he'd managed to do it during the day on a weekend, I wouldn't have minded as much. As it was, I didn't go to his memorial service, and told his gf she could foot the bill for his cremation and stuff; otherwise, I was going to donate him to the nearest medical school or dogfood factory. (She wasn't very happy about that last.)
Mom's still alive and kickin' (my ass, usually) at 81. She does a good job of keeping me on the borderline of sanity, since we currently live together. I don't plan for that to last much longer, though. She can have the home, the car (as long as she keeps up the payments - I'm cosigner, and my credit is effed-up enough after 3 divorces w/o a car repo on it. If she blows the payments, *I'll* repo it.), the neighbors (who she just *adores!*), and the big bathroom. Not that the garden tub will do her any damned good, since she can't get in and out of the damn thing...
If anyone thinks my family may be what you would call dysfunctional, I'll just point out that my bio-father and bio-mother were married to each other for about 22 years or so... spread over 4 marriages and 4 divorces, all to each other.
Oh, and I like spearmint gum as well. I can't stand any of the fruity type gums. If it's not minty in some way, I don't want it.
Oh no! I'm so sorry. I had to watch my Bubbie go through Alzheimers and it was incredibly painful. I'm absolutely petrified that my mother will have it, too.
My heart goes out to you and your father![]()
Way. Four times between 1944 and 198x (don't even remember what year the last divorce was). Living proof of "Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em," I guess. No way?! WTF? Four times?
So, you say "bio" mother and father, does that mean there were other parents in the picture?
