Let's hear it, folks. Have you ever said or did something to piss off your boss but, for whatever reason, you could not be fired?

??? Haven't we all done or said something to piss off our boss at some time or another? Most bosses calm down and deal with the issue later, they don't fire you on the spot, even if they can.

SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE SMARTASS

Let's just say that I am the type of person who has a habit of not "biting my tongue". I guess it's a police thing since I was always hearing, "I didn't do it" or "it's not mine." If I am asked a stupid question, the person will know that they asked a stupid question, regardless who they are or what their authority may be.
Once, when I was working at a drug store. The manager was on vacation and his assistant was at the bank when the district manager paid the store a visit. This is a guy who would walk into the store and walk the entire store noticing everything. As I was moving bags of snack size candy bars to another end cap of the same merchandise (just a few yards away), he approached me and asked the typical stupid question, "Why are you doing that?" Well, I made an effort of letting him answer his own question but instead, he repeated the question. I replied, "Wow, Mr. C, I would think that as a district manager, you would be a little more observant than that." I then proceeded to show him the 2 endcaps and thereby, indicating my purpose of that task. I guess feeling embarrassed, he walked away quietly. Eversince that day, he tried damnest to have a manager fire me. Due to my years of experience, years on that job, and my personal performance, none of the managers whom he confronted (I was transferred, by request) would fire me for his personal reason. Only one out of the 3 would go as far as leaving me off of her schedule but I only made up the lost by working other stores. Finally, since she didn't have the balls to run the store without becoming a puppet of his, I requested a transfer to the store where I was originally hired back in 1985. I spent 14 years on that job and 2 district managers could not get rid of me like they wanted. UNTOUCHABLE.

Nope, never. I supposed the fact that I hardly ever speak might have something to do with that.

??? You're QUIET in RL??

"??? You're QUIET in RL??"

I'll assume from the triple question marks that's not the mental picture you have of me.
I prefer the term introverted myself... I'm not shy, I simply have very little to say.

The best way to keep your job is ALWAYS to do it well so they don't want to lose you. It doesn't make you Untouchable, but it certainly helps.

Just let me say that once my boss really pisses me off, I say EXACTLY whats on my mind, but only if pushed to my breaking point. The only reason I haven't been fired *IMOP* is because she can't keep people! No one can stand her temper.

I should have been fired over a year ago, but since I was asked by the call center supervisor for weed (he wanted it for after his lasik surgery) I have pretty much had any job that I wanted in that center. Not to mention when another manager "suspended" me over the holidays (labor day) "Until you speak with HR), when I spoke to the center supervisor, and the Head of HR, I had a bonus equal to the pay that I lost.

I'm shy myself, but only AWAY from my job. AT work I am in my element, in control. I think I pictured you being the same.

In control of what? Yourself, your actions, your environment, or others?
While I dislike my job and refuse to think of it as 'my element', I certainly think of myself as fitting my version of being in control. I am quiet all the time. I don't enjoy speaking.

A quote

"untouchable, branded unfuckable"
Limp Bizkit

na, i ain't that.

Never ...I think it is so sad that those around you don't get the pleasure of seeing "you". Do you dislike speaking because you find it disinteresting or is it due to not wanting to let others know your thoughts? I'm the kind of person who probably drives you crazy....if I think it , it usually comes out of my mouth! If I think somebody has pretty eyes ...out it comes. If you smell good ...I'm the one who told you so. I have actually had serious conversations in line at the grocery store! but on the other hand I only have one very close friend.

anyway back on topic.......

We have a billboard outside of the bank and it had a really stupid christmas slogan on it....well, we are all sitting there one day and I proceeded to point out just [/b]how[/b] stupid I thought it was....I mean who would come up with such a nonsense thing?........As it turns out it was my manager's (who was sitting there) husband that came up with that [/b]brilliant[/b] sign. oh well .

how come my bold never works right?

I wasn't untouchable, but the other teachers at my school were. The year I left to go on my leave of absence, several other teachers made plans to leave the school too. Two others were also going on an extended leave of absence. Three were transferring to other schools. Out of a staff of about 20, that's a lot of teachers leaving.

It got to the point where the principal was facing so many empty positions to fill that the staff began to feel they were all UNTOUCHABLE. So certain were we that the principal didn't want any more vacancies, whenever we didn't turn in a paper on time or our attendance sheet wasn't signed, or whatever, people would joke, "What's she gonna do? Fire us?"

We didn't abuse the untouchable status, but it sure was funny to bring up.

That's basically what I said, Cheyenne. I often worked in the warehouse and assisted the manager with the incoming inventory (unloading supply trucks). The managers knew damn well that, with me gone, there would be no way for them to be able to hire and keep someone who would want to do the jobs that I was doing at starting salary.
