Are You There God? It's me, Lavender

I have no idea what you're talking about.
You realize, not all of us were raised in relgious household.
(or the religious household we lived in for awhile didn't let 'books' into the house)

I read every Judy Blume book I could get my hands on. Ah, youth! Life was so mysterious back then! Boys were such mysteries. Hell, our own bodies were a mystery. I wouldn't want to go back to being that naive for all the tea in China (and I do love tea!), but it does make me smile to remember those days...

I'm ditto'ing everything Laurel just said, and then some..

Over my 3 day vacation at the coast I read a new Judy Blume novel written for adults. It's call Summer Sisters.

I was the kid who always had her nose in a book and I'll be danged if it wasn't a Judy Blume novel. She was an awesome author when I was a kid, and still is, as far as I am concerned. :)

How many of you chickadees read "Are you there God? It's me, Margaret" when you were young. Was it the ultimate adolescent chica book or what? I think Laurel's We must increase our bust reminded me of those days. :)

Must you do that? I am rather busy, you Know!!

*Swooning* It's The Almighty! Lord I am a sinner, please don't strike me down but forgive me
I am a wanton woman of loose morals
I lied in a job interview
I really did eat those cookies as a kid
HEY? Don't you look familiar? :p

Tell me something I don't Know! Go ahead! Just try!

Oh come on now...you really think a supreme being would waste time on the Lit BB?

God,
Im sorry I doubted you. Will you forgive me? And um do you know the lotto no's?

The Almighty is busy but I'd be more than willing to help.
You've been under a great deal of stress lately, I can tell by that look in your eyes. Why don't we sit back and have a nice cup of esspresso and talk about it.
I know it will make you feel much better.

I heard there were Gods on this board, so I had to check it out. No Gods, but a few fallen angels!

If you really want forgiveness, then of course I do. Do I know the lottery numbers? Yes, and so do you!

Laurel, don't be so hard on yourself.
This is a wonderful site and I can see the effort and talent that you've put into it. You must be a dedicated individual.

Well, I just move stuff around...the writers do all the hard work. Still, if you were a supreme being and could be anywhere, would you be here? I'm not saying this is a pit or anything. I just think that Tahiti would be nice right about now. Or Zurich, even.

I'm sorry Laurel. That was me..

I don't know why 'he' is here or why 'he' would bothing coming to your board. In fact, I was wondering myself.

And for the record, I'm not a fallen angel, I gave up my post willingly.

Judy Blume

Oh yeah...especially Deenie, which stuck with me for some reason.

Beverly Cleary. I miss her too. Beezus and Ramona. Now there's some good stuff.

Anyone remember who wrote Harriet the Spy? I read that damn thing dozens of times, but the name is just gone.

I read Nancy Drew for YEARS...never suspecting Carolyn Keene was a man. So, I'm not much of a detective, personally. I should have known. Only a man would have attractive and (mostly) available females eating ALL THE TIME, in a book for girls. The women knew better. Whether they were trying to keep us thin, or reflect reality, I don't know. Which came first, the eating disorder or Seventeen? Now there's a mystery.

Laurel, I did too. I remember "Are You There God..." being passed around the bus with the particularly hot places dog-eared and highlighted. hehe

I read that book as well "Summer Sisters". Some parts of it were rather, um, stimulating. :) I love Judy Blume, read her books when I was growing up .

I read Summer Sisters too, and thought it was pretty compelling. One of the characters reminded me of someone I know, so it really stuck in my mind. I read a few Blume books when I was younger, but has she written anything else for adult readers? I would be curious to know.

Are you there God, it me Margaret, isn't a religious book. It's about a pre-teen girl who is trying to find herself. She is experimenting with a few religions, to see what one suits her. She also gets her period, and has a group of friends who are involved in trying to increase thier busts, getting boys to notice them, finding out about kissing, and competing on who will get thier period first.

A very good book for any girl in the 9-13 age, I think.
I loved her books when I was younger. Super Fudge was one of my favorites.

"Are you there God? It's me, Margaret. I can't wait until two o'clock God. That's when our dance starts. Do you think I'll get Philip Leroy for a partner? It's not so much that I like him as a person God, but as a boy he's very handsome. And I'd love to dance with him... just once or twice. Thank you God."
