I got a new snazzy microphone today (okay, so actually it was really cheap, but thats by and by) and I decided to record an excerpt from "Proving Santa Exists"
and then I thought it'd be lovely to share it with you lot :)

Proving Santa Exists Excerpt

Anyone else want to read a story/part of story/poem for us? :)

I'm kinda scared by the fact that I could so easily hear your voice reading the Thomas the Tank Engine stories in my head. It's got just the right cadence and energy in it.

I've recorded mine, but I can't put it up because Lit won't accept .zip files as attachments anymore. Boo hiss. Anyone with webspace willing to host for me?

Thomas the tank engine? Why gee, thanks. The two stories I read for the daughter at bedtime must put m in good stead for reading childrens books *L*

This one is a big'un (ooooh my!) a whole short, sexy story...hopefully this time I won't make people think of thomas the tank ;)

:( My sound card is broken since I upgraded to XP. Can't get the right drivers and have to wait to buy a new one. Sigh.

That's just wonderful, EL!

I must say, my tin American ears find it much easier to understand the 'spoken' segments, as opposed to the exposition. Nonetheless, hearing your prose in the lilt it's imagined is priceless! Truly, you have a gift for the spoken word - I wonder if it's something you could leverage into the audio book world? Either reading your own, or others' works, with a bit of polish (?) for our lousy American ears, you have a wonderful speaking voice and a real knack for the dialogue. It sounds fresh and spontaneous in your voice. (I don't mean to imply that it is anything less in the reading, just that hearing you read it sounds like a nice recorded book reading. :) )

I'd love to be able to record music to share with friends. How much does a set up for this kind of thing cost?

...because its worth a few shots at keeping this thing alive for EL's sake, and I'm vain.

 thanks, love. Great voice, very funny *grins*

Magica -all you need is a microphone and you can pick them up really cheaply. Mine cost £2. Then I'll happily host anyone's clips once they're recorded. :)

Huck -thanks, love. We speak a different language over here ;) I read outloud at church alot as a kid -bible readings etc and of course now I read out loud to my daughter all the time, so I'm kinda used to it.

But what kind of software do you use to do this?

Google for a program called 'audacity'. It's free, easy to use and does everything that I need it to do.

yup, even I managed to download it and use it.

You can just use what you've got though if you're windows'd up.

click on the start menu

go to progams
go to accessories
go to entertainment
go to sound recorder

which does well enough for recording a short clip :)
