From neunrotic's thread:
Is there any other poets so prolific as Jim here on Lit?

Oh, you said, prolific

I always thought the word was profilic, and meant that you had a clear profile. Like, a distinct and recognizeable writing style. The opposite (but equally positive) of versatile, I guess.

Which brings me to another question: Some poets here I can instantly recognise when I read their poems. The sharp, paced rhythm of mr Hale, the musical language of Echoes, Eagleyez' hip shooting Americana, to name a few.

Others, like Carrie, Lauren, Jim and Eve, I find not as easy to recognise from poem to poem, varying their output in style and voice quite a lot, deliberately experimenting and finding new forms of expression, I suspect. I think I belong in this category as well. At least I try to.

How about the rest of you? Could you look at a poem without it's author's name tagged to it and see who it was by? Who in your opinion are the really profiled poets here? And why?

Do you think of yourself as having a clear profile, or dabbing around in all directions at once?

guten morgen, Liar ;)

I try to vary my style, but unfortunately I am firmly rooted ion my garden style variety poems :(

BUT^, I also have 3 aliases and not everyone here knows who they are and those poems are rarely recognized as my own, so I must not be totally naked in front of you all..although...that does give me ideas :D

I think the one poem I wrote and posted that got the most FB about it NOT being typical julie, was/is A Willow Bending and that is one of my favorites, a dream poem, writ upon waking...it is still up, if you wanna see what I mean ;)

bye 4 now, m

Why would you want to use aliases? I do not understand that at all - its your decision to have them but I just do not get that.

Razz :p

I actually don't use any--I was going to at one time, for personal reasons, but decided against it. I think some of us sometimes feel that we get locked into a way of being seen by others. Using another name is way to test whether that's true. And I think it is true because I know there are people here whose poems get scads of attention under the "known" name and virtually none under the alias. I've also known people who don't want to write graphic erotic poetry under the name everyone knows because those poems can draw fairly creepy unwanted attention, at least for some women. And of course a graphic erotic poem is not necessarily an invitation to anything. I'm sure there are other reasons.

Funny though--there are a few people here, either because their style is so distinct and/or because I've read so much of their stuff over time, whose poems I can usually id no matter what name is used. My current style is pretty easily identifiable, I think, but I've changed over the past few years. I wonder if I posted something I'd written a few years ago if people would recognize it as mine. I doubt it.

One's "profile" is also harder to catch, imho, when the poet is writing in a traditional form. Free verse tends to make a writer stay closer to whatever it is that makes whomever, um whomever. :)

angeline, you got it exactly!!! of course you would, you know me well...but Razz, I do it because whether we admit it or not, we dont always read everyones work and when I write as Tanja, or Mia, I get FB from people who just dont like maria ( for whatever reason), or dont read her for whatever reason, and then, I can see where I did something right, or wrong, but thats just me. I dont necessarily write more graphic as another name, but when you already have poems entitled "cumslut....whatever" that just screams, I am really not afraid of the pervs, doesnt it? :D

but Razz, my intent is not to deceive anyone, not at all, if asked, I readily admit they are me...and sometimes, its just fun to sit down here , in another mindset and write without someone saying, damn, maria, that is different...and it does not really suit you...but, they dont do it to mia, or tanja, or the other one... see?
I have been typecast :(

Damn- I JUST wrote to a friend Last night about this very question.

I can usually ID people's aka's after a while, and have a feel for people's style--

but I have no idea if I have a style of my own.

I guess I have to wait until I am senile and can read my own and see if I recognize it as mine.

I want to do a my own (self centered of course) poll:

Does anna have any style?

A. I recognize that bitch even when coated in honey and mint leaves
B. Who the hell is anna?
C. No. She has no style.
D. Depends if her meds are working

I have often used other names, though I usually blab about it after a few poems. And you know why? My poetry gets more feedback and attention under other names! So, I have to say, "Hey, that's mine!" Anyway, I stopped that. It's all going under the WE name now--the good, the bad, the ugly, and the "God, what in the hell is she talking about."
Ange, I know you've usually spotted my poetry when I've used other names. I think you, smithpeter, denis, rybka, and few others have fairly recognizable styles.

I see I'm the only one, so far, to choose: No way! If I ever write one poem that looks like another, spank me.
Guess why I picked that one! :D

hmm, just a wild guess. but is it cuz you LIKE to get spanked? :big grin :

oh yeah, maybe your aka poems get more Fb because some people ( ME) are so in awe of you they are sometimes afraid to offer FB, and hates to just seem like they ( ME) are sucking up, I often suck, at alot of things, but I dont suck UP  ...

just a thought :rose:

ps, tell tammy i said hi

I voted "No way" - not because I don't WANT a recognisable style, I'd actually like one, but because I can't see it myself.

Spank me anyway, BTW.

Didn't there used to be a spanking thread somewhere? Is that where we get our number, Ang?

I have to have a ticket? Things sure have changed. I remember back in the ol' days when a gal had to walk 15 miles in the snow for a spanking. Didn't have to have no ticket either!

ummmmmmmmmmmmmm

does someone need a spanking.............................??

:D

;) Ha! I don't think I could hide behind another nick if even tried.

And uphill. Both ways.

Anyway you don't need a ticket. You have a charter member's lifetime pass. It's like being emeritus.

i have a style and I'm not sure what it is.

Mostly I can pick out the regular posters around here without seeing their names.

(i also have spankers for rent)
