AH'ers, a couple of questions for you all. Do you write yourself or people you know into stories? Do you make your characters do things that you or the people you've based them on would never do in real life?

If you do, why? What motivates you?

No. I'm not in my stories.

No. No one I know is in my stories except in an unrecognisable form as an amalgam of several people EXCEPT jeanne_d_artois' Fag-Ash_Lil based on a caricature of a real person now regrettably deceased.

Yes. Some of my characters do things that I, or anyone I know or knew, wouldn't do, or couldn't do. Some do things that are impossible except as a fantasy.

Why? To fit the story.

I've used myself to an extent as the male lead character in a few of my stories. I do try and put a little part of myself in all of my characters though.

Only in the Harry Dick series. There I show up as "...the insane author, Jenny Jackson." I like that :D

Of course I am. Which stories? You figure it out. ;)

It Works For Me

Yes, I always see myself as one of the male characters in my stories. It gives me the opportunity to blend actual experience with my fantasies and allows me to show a little of myself to the reader.

Many of my female characters are based on women I know.

Both. But with others, like was said before - an amalgam.

Yes. But a good fantasy does not always make for good reality. Also, sometimes a story takes a direction of its own. My first story (Marion's Turn) was a strapon story and somehow ended up with crossdressing being a major focus. It got a good response so I wrote another (The Bet). I was amused because I have no actual interest in that fetish.

I'm every male character having sex in all of my stories. I modify them to have different traits so that you don't know they are all me, but they are.

I usually base my female leads on people I have met, or porn stars. Over the Sink has a TV personality and a couple of porn stars (one started out as one porn star and turned nto another in my head). Though no one would know it unless I told them because I didn't describe them as such :D

I used my cousin for one story, but again, you would never know which unless I told you.

I've thought about this and I doubt that I could ever be a main character in one of my stories, except one that has never been written.

On that occasion I hooked up with a lovely man who wanted me to tied him spread-eagle, butt naked to the bed and abuse him. I really wasn't in the mood so I tied his dumb ass up, then went out in the living room and watched a movie.

When I untied him, two hours later, he was pissed. Oddly, I never saw him again. I've thought several times about writing this, but... :D

Most definitely. I live vicariously through my female protagonists.

I couldn't have said it better. Although, I would have used male protagonists instead of female.

To more fully answer the original question... My multi-chapter stories have protagonists who much more closely imitate my manner of thinking and acting than my one shot stories. I can put myself into their mind set more easily if they make sense to me, and the people who make sense to me tend to think like me. The women in those stories tend to be composites of women I've known, even if I've only known them as characters in a movie, book or TV show. It's kind of like in Weird Science where they put different parts of women into the computer to create an amalgam.

My one-shot stories, I tend to go the other way. The characters are seldom like me and frequently do things I wouldn't do. For me they are much of an escapism type of writing, whereas the multi-chapter are moral exploration pieces.

There are pieces of me and my experiences in most of my stories. The size of the pieces varies considerably. I think it will always be that way, no matter what I'm writing.

Naw. Who wants to read about a 68 year old bald man, 4’, 5” that weighs in at 320 pounds and has a penchant for cowboy hats and red long johns?

Actually, who doesn’t write people they see and meet into their stories? Well, that is, if we want the story to feel real to the reader. We may not put all the characteristics of one person into the same character but everything we do, say, read, eat and see – everyday - eventually ends up in our stories (if we write enough).

:p

But then who am I but a broke down old cowboy in search of Jenny Craig….

I usually find parts of me in each character, but no one character is very close to being me. In the series of stories I'm working on, there are 5 characters.

I find myself motivated to do things/have them experience things based on my day to day moods. In fact, there is one character, whom I would like to totally emasculate. Just saying. Motivation - he pisses me off continually.

Actually, all my characters are people I've seen at one time or other. Some in real life, some in the news, some in the media. Acctually, Violet Barfly is Anna Nichol Smith. There is only one thing I've ever written that is me. If you read my stories, you'll know which. (And it's not Sushi Fishing)

AH'ers, a couple of questions for you all.

Do you write yourself or people you know into stories?

Greetings

I write "First Person" so I identify with the protagionist and he shares some of my life experiences but in many ways he's very different.

As for people...

The ones who annoy me during the day tend to become villains who die horribly. The more painful the encounter, the more awful the fate - - very therapuetic.

I think everyone I meet is fair game to become a character in one form or another. Mostly unregognized or bit of mannerism or some description...

Do you make your characters do things that you or the people you've based them on would never do in real life?

I write Sci/Fi and Fantasy mostly, Like my story BLOOD AND IRON here on LIT, so my characters are shooting and fighting with swords or martial arts but I try to make those actions "realistic" -- that is real guns and real swords wielded in a way consistent with my knowledge and experience.

But the core adventure is a total construct! I hope my characters act in "real ways" in that unreal setting and plot arc.

If you do, why? What motivates you?

I came to this writing late in life and discovered i liked to "tell a tale"

Mostly I like the people I meet in the various sites where i post my stories

Thanx for some interesting questions...

Enjoy the journey

No, I don't write me. I borrow character traits from people I know, but never based a whole character on anybody.

I guess physically, my Weslie character is a better version of me. Her character flaws are worse (I hope) versions of my own.

In general I use bits and pieces of people I know or encounter. I've always had a tendency to observe people, so it's coming in handy for my writing.

Oh God, do I!

If the female is a bitch, she’s my ex. It feels sooo nice to get her into predicaments.

If I feel sympathetic towards my heroine, I start writing her so much to my liking that my character finally has to set me down and have a serious one on one talk with me, telling me she has to live her own life and to stop mothering her.

I tried putting myself into butch mode and writing a male character that had similarities to me, but that went over like a lead ballon.

Of course, I do.

I usually spread myself across several characters, though. Mix-n-match Imp. *nods*

I'm a character, can you spread yourself across me?
