Are we still on the highest alert?

I'm a bit confused about this "high alert" stuff.........My husband is a Police Officer and when It came out I called him at work and said "I just heard on the radio that the Police are on High Alert, do you know something that I don't?"...and he said ..." Yeah I just heard that on the radio too, I wonder when they are going to tell us about it"

None of his "higher ups" had mentioned it or made any adjustments for their safety......they are of course using common sense but I really am not sure what High alert is supposed to mean.

As long as armed national guardsmen are patrolling Penn Station, I'd say yeah, we're still on high alert.
