Are we allowed to talk about the recent debate regarding female genital mutilation?

I love how in the US we all shit brix about female genital mutilation.

We will campaign with big bux and political might against female genital mutilation ANYWHERE in the world. Except Muslim nations because that would be racist of course. They get a free pass to do anything they want in the name of their god because #diversity.

But totally support male genital mutilation to the extent it's just assumed that when you have a boy the first thing you do is cut the end of is penis off because GAWWWDUH! N' JEEEEEZEUCE!!!

LOL if the universe is lucky we will be made extinct before the virus known as humanity is allowed to infest the rest of the cosmos.

It ain't the same. Circumcision doesn't affect function or fucking.

Female Genital Mutilation causes pain, can cause infection, infertility, and death and certainly affects fucking making it either incredibly painful or at least worst removes any possible enjoyment.

Would you want to fuck if it was painful or totally joyless?

Foreskin greatly affects function and sex. Motility and lubrication, for one. Easier to control ejaculation. Protects the head of the penis from clothing, etc. And greatly increases pleasure due to the sheer amount of nerve endings foreskin contains. And circumcision can also cause infection and death, and if the surgeon removes too much it can make erections unbearably painful for life. It's a very important part of the penis.

LemonBread mostly covered it.

Just because we are better at it because we have been doing it longer and it's wider acceptance doesn't make it not genital mutilation.

I don't think we've been doing it any longer (globally) it just never fell out of favor in the West for reasons. I'm kind of curious what precisely is "minor FGM" they don't define it and as a result I must remain appalled even if it is the most harmless thing ever.

Also male circumcision DOES have health benefits it's just most of the West has good enough standards of hygiene to render it moot or perhaps even detrimental. Granted part of this is (possibly) simply being in the West where Islam (primarily) is our sworn enemy but I'm unaware of any benefits whatsoever to the female from these procedures.

Though I suppose it prevents the number one problem in the military of getting sand in ones clit.

Please explain how common / rare this is. Also, please explain health benefits of female mutilation.

Kthx.

Not very common in the 1st world I'd imagine.

Explain the health benefits of male genital mutilation.

Well-documented, around the world. Circumcision is not without controversy, but that's true with many procedures.

Answer my question, and we'll see if we're talking apples to apples.

(Didn't think so. Give it a rest.)

FGM is incomprehensible to me. It's also not a new or recent topic; I recall being horrified to learn about it when I was in middle school. That a people can believe this is acceptable is disgusting and evil.

Male circumcision is, in fact, mutulation of genitals. I would not elect to have a son circumcised and am shocked that it's still the norm here in the US.

Isis circumcises all their males and practices FGM.

Don't let the terrorists win.

*attempting to derail the original subject*

You and your friend failed. And now the adults will continue the discussion.

Yes. However, it is not done for the same reason as female mutilation, nor are the gender politics behind it the same.

Certainly a worthy topic, but false equivalency re: the thread subject, and a red herring in relation to it.

Dr. Bot always tells it as it is.
He's right, again.

Terrorism is bad... Mmmkay.

The politics are certainly different, as is the level of damage. Both, however, are damaging to children and will require major cultural shifts in order to change. It's been a while since I looked at data on this, but I recall reading about the shift towards not circumcising infant males in the US, and I'm glad for that.

Countries in which FGM is routinely practiced are systematically oppressing their female citizens. Taking away their bodily autonomy, refusing to allow education of females...there's just so much that needs changed. How does one even begin to enact change? This is not ethnocentrism; the practice of FGM is deplorable and just wrong.

Failed how exactly? I asked you first high speed.

Now you can school me right here with facts like an adult, telling us all why male genital mutilation is beneficial to a mans health.

Or you can keep dodging the question straight vettecoward style in some lame attempt to defend male genital mutilation.

The choice is yours...

I'm betting you come back with shit talk.

False equivalency where?

Is circumcision genital mutilation or not?

Agree on all counts. I do think circumcision in the United States will lose its status as preferred method in the next coming decades, which I'm all for. Leave that choice to the adult male for when he comes of age.

It is. I don't have any immediate answers; I'm just disgusted, like you are.

We really need to just quit fucking with other peoples junk, blades or laws.

Not much we can do about 3rd world holes treating women like sub human shit from cradle to grave.

They much like us will have to mature on their own.

Some societies look more hopeful than others.

not once in 60 years have i ever said

gee

i sure wish i had that foreskin back.

Because you didn't get a choice....if you still had it would you let someone cut it off?

I'm not a surgeon, only an avid reader. You'd have to take up the number of occurrences with someone who's more familiar with it. The point still stands that it does happen.

As far as I know there are no health benefits from FGM, but the studies on health benefits of MGM are highly debatable.

I guess Rory is going with the *dodge question, talk shit then hide in the iggy bunker!* strategy.

Say hi to vetteman and ish for me! LOL

in the scheme of things it's about as big a deal as a hangnail

and i've used the hell out of it.

So what is the main reason it is still done? It's a good revenue for the hospitals and the doctors. Another common reasoning I hear from pregnant friends is that their husband is circumcised so their son will be too. WTF. Are they planning on any other cosmetic surgery on their kids?

I agree, there was a time when it served a purpose, but that time has passed. I realize the main explanation behind the procedure used to be hygiene, but that's not really a problem any more.

Neither my kids are circumcised and after they were born the doctors were extremely pushy trying to persuade us to go ahead with the surgery. Their main argument was that they are so small they won't remember it. Seriously? I should mutilate them just because they won't have memory of it? Any surgery, no matter how routine they say it is, carries risks and the benefits of this surgery are so minimal there is no fucking way I was going to let them proceed.

The original question related to FGM though. It's not clear from the article what level of mutilation they are talking about. If it's not any more damaging than circumcision and they do it for religious reasons, I don't see how they can allow one and not the other.
Although I'd still say fuck no to both, religion or not.
