Are we allowed to talk about cars here?

Yes we are. Until Azwed comes. Then he knows everything there is to be known about cars and you know everything else...

Have fun!

I am mechanically dis-inclined myself.

So am I. About cars anyway. But I have a goal to marry an excellent mechanic someday so I can buy a 69 mustang or 442 for kicks.

VW has made a 24 cylinder car as a production experiment or whatever.

With Environmental restrictions now in place (for the better), its unlikely you will see such cars go into mass production inthe US.

[edited to add: Nice rack!]

Oh I'm sure. Just a few limited production caddys would ever make it to market.

edited to say Thanks!

Do a search here on Tucker.

Az did a thread about that car with the third, moving headlight mounted in the hood...

[edited to say, mm, I didn't know the stick was so small on your model... :D ]

Is that stickshift envy I hear?

On a sidenote:

Kubota (Japanese tractor manufacturer) should produce cars. Following in line with firms liek Mitsubishi that do everything from fishing to cars to electronics. Kubota's equipment is consistently the best around and i would buy a bad ass car from them in a heartbeat.

Good morning mouse.

Morning Riff.

It is a good one on my end. I am having a lazy day to start and debating whether to go out tonight. Gotta run and walk the neighbor's dog but I'll be back around in a while.

Up for a phone call maybe?

BTW, the pics of Umberto and Amelia hashing out their differences were classic.

You must visit my garage one day.:D

I'd say yeah, but I have to leave for a geek show now, do some work in my office, and go shopping. Send me a PM or e-mail next time you are on-line. Maybe later this evening or tomorrow?

Pardon my hi-jack!

No problem Riff :)

I see now, I start a car thread and all the guys come in and start kibitzing. Lol!

If you had started a Hardware Store thread, they would still be here mooching donuts and coffee...

I used to test drive cars

and Cadillac consistently got my votes for favorites. I absolutely lusted after the Northstar engine. It's more than enough for everything you'd need in real life.

I can't imagine what you'd actually NEED a 16-cylinder engine for, but at that end of the scale, "need" is probably not really part of the equation.

That sounds like a fun job Someplace!

I used to work for GM. On the finance side, but I've always been interested in cars.

We have car threads here all the time- usually "what do you drive."

Then tigerlilly comes in at some point and promises to blow the doors off of anyone. hehe

Or alternative title: Is anyone interested?

Cadillac has a 16 cylinder concept car in the works. Hola!

NO! No cage threads!

Only motorcycle threads! :D

But if you must talk about those boring cars - does anybody know if someone 6'6" will fit into a Boxster? In comfort?

Remember - I live in the great NorthWet - taking the top off a car means that it will rain that day.

My brother says he fits and he is 6'4", but I would have to see for myself - 2 inches can make a big difference. The German cars are probably a lot better than the Japanese in this regard though. The Toyota MR2 is definitely not made for tall people - I can hardly get into the thing much less fit into it, and there is no way to modify it to give me more room; the seat butts right up against the bodywork - no way to move it back or lower it. Too bad, not a bad little Spyder at half the cost of the Boxster. Yeah the Boxster is a better car, but twice as good? No.

Keep a couple "Rubber Duckies" with you at all times!

Look at the resale value of a ten or twelve year Porsche vs a comparable Toyota. You might have that Boxter twenty or more years from now. Never scrimp on your toys!:D

It is a matter of priorities; do I buy one Boxster or do I buy five to ten bikes? My Tercel gets me back and forth to work, etc. when it rains - that is good enough for me. I don't need a Boxster to go 55 on the highway. When I want to go fast and carve up the twisties, or go exploring, or unwind and enjoy the oxygen coming off the trees in the forest - I hop on one of my bikes and head for the hills.

Right now the Beemer is torn apart - the battery isn't quite charging like it should, but I should be able to figure it out today and put it back together. Probably just a bad connection on one of the relays - the alternator and diode board look fine.

I am trying to sell some of my firearms so I can put the Suzuki back on the road. It has been sitting torn down for over 4 years!

I know the Boxer is a great car. German engineering it tops. I am 6'3". Not only is fitting in the car a problem but what happens in an accident? I know these cars are designed with crumple zones, etc. but it is still a major concern.

The 72 Buick Skylark I drive costs what the Boxer's valve stem does. It has plenty of room and is fast. Gas mileage sucks but dollar for dollar I'm still ahead of the game.

I like nice cars, but I like nice bikes more. When I am sitting in traffic in my car I wonder why I would spend $40k+ for a nice car unless I had that kind of money to burn. I was thinking about this just yesterday; my brother bought his wife a car for about $80k. They got a good deal on it as it was worth over $100k - the owner was caught owing some money when he got caught short in the stock market. I have driven it - a nice car, certainly a prestige car, but not worth the money to me. I wouldn't mind owning a nice little Spyder like car - something like the Boxster, the MR2, the SLK320 (that folding roof is Kewl! ), but unless I had the money to waste I wouldn't bother.

My Toyota Tercel has a broken door latch, a broken windshield, a turn signal that is sticky and buzzes, the muffler has holes in it - but it gets me around from point A to point B, gets 40 MPG, it is dependable, it is paid for, and if it was stolen today I could replace it out of pocket tomorrow without having to take out a loan.

Owning a well engineered good looking sports car would be nice, but would it be $40k+ nice? No. In a $40k+ sports car I can't get through traffic any better than in my $1k Toyota, and it wouldn't be 40 times better, just 40 times as expensive. Now my bikes on the other hand - I can move through traffic like a hot knife goes through butter. I can be up to 100 MPH+ and back down to zero in half the time a car takes, it is much harder to catch a bike on radar (if it wasn't, I would have lost my license a long time ago  ), and you are much closer to your environ while riding. Riding a bike is much more like flying than driving a sports car.

The downsides of bikes are having to suit up - it is quicker to use the car for short trips, the weather, the comfort, the risk. But it is worth it most of the time.
