Are there free websites where I can post my stories?

Since there are no official volunteer editors (the webpage is down), and my story was rejected for having normal line lengths, I think it would be better off to just put it on another website and let people look at it this way.

I don't want to go through another week long wait only to see it get rejected for such a silly reason.

They coulda just posted it. It comes out just fine in a text editor.

Jeez, and I was looking forward to seeing this get posted. How in the world can you possibly not be able to process a text file whose line length is 70 chars..? I have never seen such a thing...

The very first story I posted I didn't put in txt format - lol - so it was rejected. (after I fixed it and resubmitted - no problem)

I saw your other thread. Is this the same problem or a new one (because KM gave terrific advice there).

We feel your frustration, honestly - we've all been there! Try what KM said first - see if that makes a difference? (and make sure you preview it after you initially submit)

Don't give up on Lit yet!

:)

I used to post there, but it's not half as good as Literotica. I think it's the biggest free erotic site on the web, and it's pretty hard to get noticed.

Or else just google on "Free Erotic Literature" &c.

Or did you just want to vent a little?

The alternatives are nice, and I am going to look into them, but I do no intend an animosity towards anyone. After talking to a number of people, I will also try submitting again. Right now I'm enjoying the time to follow up on some editing advice and also make some improvements before trying again on Monday. :D

Thanks, and I'll add these to my list of possible media.

Why not?

Dear LT,
I don't understand why you cant get something ,.... anything posted here. Good grief, The DurtGurl Group can get posted, and if that bunch makes it,..... well, they aren't too pickey.

Here's a clue. If you can't get accepted here, instead of lowering your standards and inflicting some poor hapless souls at A.S.S. or elsewhere. . .

Learn how to write!

1. Get an elements of style book and use it.
2. Read a book and think "How is the author telling this story? What makes it good?"
3. Proof your story at least 3 times. Wait at least a day between proofs.
4. If you can get someone else to proof it, do so.
5. Use the help menu on your word processor. 1 inch margin on the left. 2 on the right. 12 pitch. Save as text.
6. Lastly, send it in.

On the other hand..........

As an alternative, write like DurtGurl does. Nobody notices deficiencies in style, spelling, punctuation, etc. Proofreading and editing her stuff is like trying to polish a turd.

Considering LT's posts on the board so far, I don't think his writing is the problem around here. Add that to the rejection notice he posted, it appears to be nothing more than technical difficulties poorly explained.

I have, by the way, give the Big L a heads up about the lack of clarity in the rejection (you're not the first to be confused) and I understand she's changed the way things are explained so that it's not quite so cryptic.

Similar problem...

Hi there,

I appreciate your frustration.

My first story 'AngelWings' (http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=89114) was published and seems to be doing well. I've had loads of positive feedback, good votes and it even got a 'H', which made me smile.

However, if I'm honest, this story wasn't exactly my best work. It was just an experiment for me as I am new to Lit, to practice my writing skills and get to grips with this thing called erotica.

Despite the positive feedback, I'm not v.proud of it either esp. as it is an incest story, something I never thought I would write. But when it was so well received, it gave me the confidence boost I needed to continue writing, this time focusing on something that I could really get my teeth into.

I therefore wrote and submitted two more stories that I really poured my heart into and after a lengthy wait, they were eventually rejected for the same reason LT's was. Which, as I'm sure you can imagine, was a blow because I was really proud of them, more so than 'AngelWings'.

For any writer it is hard to accept rejection esp. when it is so ambiguous because it is difficult to know what is required of you to get your work accepted. And it was a bitter pill to swallow, esp. as I have read some stories on this site, as MathGirl has pointed out, littered with spelling and grammatical errors as well as poor dialogue and paragraph use that were accepted. And without meaning to sound arrogant, I know that my stories were better than that and were rejected.

But I did as I was told, read the Writer's Resources (which are fantastic!) and have re-written one of them. I re-submitted it last night and it is now 'pending'. I would have liked to have shown it to a Volunteer Editor first but the page isn't working so I had to submit it blind.

And hey...it's not the end of the world! Any every writer has to get used to rejection and criticism at some point. Besides, I'm new to all of this so I'm not naive enough to think that everything I write is perfect. So I will learn what I can from it and use it to become a better writer.

We shall see if my revised version gets accepted, I'll keep you posted.

Much love,
 powderpinkangel x

First of all, as I said in another thread, I don't want to be mistaken as having hostility towards the editors who accept and/or reject stories here. There are tons of stories on this site, posted and read for free. I was just morbidly shocked to see mine was rejected for reasons that I do understand now.

And I'd like to thank KM for the kind words :) Couture is kinda pissed at me because I said, in another thread, that yes, men can write emotional stuff. I don't think she liked that at all :D

Powderpinkangel: Well, I guess we can hunt around and look for volunteer editors until the official resource returns. I sure would like to find some harsh and unforgiving, but objective, eyes to look at my stuff. Heck, I'd throw it at Couture before anyone else, if I knew she didn't already have it in for me. :D Those harsh editors can really break your heart sometimes, but you know when you get by them, and you know they were impartial, you'll have the rest eating out of your hand.

I'm harsh and objective, but I'm forgiving. Send it to me anyway, Tongue. I'll edit it for you.

I followed the link. This is a good competent story told with originality. It is nothing to be ashamed of - I wish there were more stories like this.

I am also glad that it didn't go to an editor (*looking over shoulder). I think they may have given you advice on presentation and this story requires a little flexibility with the rules. I would rather see it the way you wanted to present it.

That was a joke before LT. I think I warned you might tear a hole in the space time continuum or something.

I wasn't being mean about the other either. It's just that there are plenty of good people posting stories, only not enough people posting good stories. Also, the fifth item I listed, should have fixed your line length problem.

Why thank you...

LT: I haven't given up the day job just yet but am waiting with my head in the oven to see if the next one gets rejected ;)

dr_m: Like the Russian police you are harsh. Harsh but fair. In the absence of any Volunteer Editors, would you mind if I sent my next submission to you? *grovels*

Gabriel: *takes her head out of the oven momentarily* Thank you again for taking the time to read my story and post your comments. My work may be a little rough around the edges but I think with enough constructive feedback and pratice I will get better. Well that's the plan anyway...

If anybody needs me, I'll be in the kitchen.

Much love,

Point taken :) Your post made me decide that the next story I'd do, would have some emotional appeal in it. Ya had some influence there!

And since my current story got rejected here, I'm hard at work right now to see if I can work it in. If not, it'll go in the next one.

Just so everyone knows, for the time being I've got a site up at geocities. I'll put the link here after Dr. Mabeuse has had a look. More revisions. Then a re-submit!

(All this hoohah over one story that might not even be worth a dang.)

Don't let that stop you

Someone asked for a more specific answer on how to change from a Word document to plain text. Here's what I do. Hope it helps.

File/Page Setup
Change the left margin to 1" and the right to 2"
File/Save As/
Then I change the Save as Type to 'plain text' and click 'Save'
Then the file conversion window comes up.
Here I select "MS-DOS"
Insert Line Breaks
End lines with CR/LF
And very importantly "Allow character substitution"
This switches all the special characters that Word uses to 8 bit format. (Don't hold me to the 8 bit part.)

Much ado..........

All that? I just "save as" and click on "plain text".

Presto Changeo! Shazam! Viola... oops... Voila!

Ever Helpful, MG

The method I listed not only works for Lit, but also for newsgroups etc that do not recognize as many characters.

I can take my head out of the oven...

...my story has been published.

Even though I won't get anywhere near the number of views/votes/feedback as the last one, I'm v.proud of it nonetheless.

Yours v.relieved,
 powderpinkangel x

Hey there,

You can also always copy and paste your story into the box for submissions in the submit page. You don't need to attach a file at all.

When volunteer editors fail you, come to us, or go to Story Feedback. There are plenty of people willing to help = )

Don't give up on lit, please. We'd be sad to lose any stories. (even the durtgurl ... works of art)
