Is Shere Hite right??

Shere Hite, in last weeks' New Scientist magazine, slams Pfizer and other drugs companies for inventing, i.e. fabricating the condition of Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD), in order to market their products.

One thing that she mentioned was that 98% of women stimulate themsleves clitorally when they masturbate, with only 2% "going deeper". Which is why, she argues, a lot of women don't get to orgasm when dealing with we impatient men. Not enough tongue or fingers, in other words.

Ms Hite has seen a lot of women masturbate, (and got paid), so I don't really feel qualified to argue.

Will this poll corroborate her findings? Or will it smash her theories with overwhelming counter-evidence?

In strict confidence, you're invited to vote here, in the interests of science, of course.

I prefer to stroke my clit as a means to orgasm...On occasion I will also use a dildo while stroking my clit, but I never read orgasm without some clit stroking.

it is a totally different feeling to touch my clit than to have sex, not better, not worse...when i masturbate i use my clit cause it's easier, less messy, quicker, and the feeling is ... well ... comperable.

chicklet

(wondering if "comperable" is a word...)

When I "give myself a little appreciation", I prefer to rub my clitoris. When I have sex with a guy, I prefer deep action.

Ofcourse it's double-double-chocolate flava if I rub my clit while a giuy is fucking me..! *drool*

I just stimulate my clit when I masturbate because its just some quick relief I am after! If i want anything more than a quick orgasm my husband gets involved *wg*

(from the looks of it, the french ARE right...who'dathunkit)

Truly, the best of both worlds--and why not the best?

Sub J,

Good topic. Anyone who ever read my little essay "Playing with Myself" at this site knows how I feel about it.

It's apparently something many men wonder about, though, because I got a lot of comments from readers.

If Ms. Hite is arguing that it is not dysfunctional for a woman to need clitoral stimulation to orgasm, than I'm with her.

But I have to admit, I haven't heard word one about this supposed dysfunction from Phizer or anyone else.

Are they marketing a drug to 'help' this 'dysfunction'? If so, what is it? What is it supposed to do?

If Pfizer Pharmaceuticals comes out with a product for this "malady," they will have both genders covered. They make Viagra.

Everything I have seen so far that I have read have FSD including a very broad range of things including desire disorders, arousal disorders, orgasmic disorders, and sex pain disorders. I don't believe that there is any specifc problem itself being referred to.

I think it may be possible that Ms. Hite was slamming others as a means of promoting herself. Wouldn't be the first time someone did this for attention.

Shere Hite was talking about arousal disorders, which Pfizer are marketing a pill for -- a female Viagra.

I was offered Viagra once, to take recreationally. I could couldn't swallow it, it got stuck in my throat. I had a stiff neck for days.

they've definitely hit this on the mark...

for me...it's all clit all the time when i'm by myself...and it's pretty high on the list of choices for stimulation when i'm not alone, as well, come to think of it ;)

So, the company that makes medicine says that 43% of all women have "sexual dysfunction" issues? Now WHY don't I trust these guys..?

I wonder how many women would have sexual problems at all, if they hadn't been raised to see sex as something indecent, something you can't talk about, especially not in bed with your lover - he might think you're criticizing him!

Communication, people!

"Do you like it like this? Do you want me to touch you here? Tell me how to make it really, really good for you, baby..." "Oh, yes... a little more to the left... yeah, just like that... oh, please, I can't take much more, please, not so hard, be gentle, oooh..."

Oddly, I think Svenskaflicka has finally said something that I agree with...

*killing myself laughing!* thanks for that Josh, I needed it ;)

hmm i'd debate whether prefering to use clitoris stimulation to orgasm is a 'dysfunction' though... i guess that sounds very similar to the other forms of advertising going on in the world today. you're not sexy unless your stick thin... etc.

just because it takes longer to figure out how to stimulate an orgasm from the g spot doesn't mean that it's a dysfunction, right?

it's an ability women have, an ability to find stimulation for orgasm in different ways.

just my opinion though

Well, so far, it looks like Shere Hite is right.

Obvious to many of you maybe, but not to inexperienced ol' me (and maybe not obvious to a few younger male authors):

Clit stimulation is the main way to reach orgasm.

If more of us men try to remember this fact it will go down well with women.

Well, not to get too technical, but I'm pretty sure that the Clitoris and the Penis are equals in biological terms, meaning the two are one in the same during the first stages of fetal development, before gender is developed. Basically, all babies in the womb begin as females and if the Y chromosome is present, then the clitoris (or whatever it might be called at this stage) grows in later stages to develop into the penis.
Considering this, the question I'm wondering is: How many men can orgasm without stimulating the penis? I doubt that many, and if it's possible, do you really think many of us would go exploring new ways when this one is already there for us, and convenient?
I guess my point is clitoral stimulation as a primary means of achieving orgasm is pretty much common sense. As far as it being a "malady"...hey, what's wrong with her needing that stimulation, so long as she can achieve orgasms...
It's not like it'll kill her.
