The nearest police station where I grew up was twenty miles away. No one needed guns to protect themselves. And we never had real bad shit go down either. It was apparently a cut-down rifle which is why he had to resort to stabbing her to finish the job. An unarmed 77yr old man went to her aid and sustained injuries for his trouble. A brave man if ever there was one.

Guns are available here but it isn't legal to own anything other than a hunting rifle (single shot) or a shotgun. You need a permit for both and that is issued at the discretion of the police. Our police do not routinely carry guns. To deal with an armed villain they have to call upon an armed response unit.

"Where did they get the gun?" would be the first question most brits would ask.
