Hey, I was just wondering if anyone that reads these boards likes anime as well. I know a few of you do, but I dunno about the rest of ya. Obviously from my current AV, I like anime and I have quite a few more AV's that I can post as well. But if you do like anime, what kind and what series do you like?

Heh, I was looking for a Gouki av as well.

I would have prefered a nice pic of Evil Ryu from the SFA anime but they sucked.

Gouki's got such a tiny head in that pic. Must have contracted some rare disease.

I am anime.

and freakgurl his av is a character from streetfighter I think called Akura... shit I forget his name, but he's a dark equivelent to Ryu and Ken.

Actully, the pic I have for my AV IS Gouki. Aka Akuma. I had/have a couple evil ryu pics on my comp...not sure if I still have them thoo, will look for them if you want me too.

Thanks for the offer for the Evil Ryu pics but half the fun for me is to find them myself.

I'm bout to watch the latest volume of Kenshin...the climax of the Kyoto Arc seems to be upon me.

I like it,

but don't know much about it. There were a couple of good articles in last Sunday's New York Times "Art's & Leisure" section about anime going "mainstream" and how Japanese programmes are modified for the U.S. market. I prefer to hear the Japanese and read the subtitles.

I like Miyazaki, of course--looking for a DVD of Mononoke Hime without the horrid English voice-overs.

Yes, I like it

I'm a casual viewer. I couldn't tell you the type I like. What I don't like are the extremely violent ones.

I like the good vs evil stuff and comic stuff. I like adult cartoons in general. The only thing that disturbs me is the rare, unfortunate times I ran across that stuff where killing and disembodying the girl was the fetish. That is offensive and creepy.

Peace,

daughter

BaStArD!!

I love Anime - its so damn quirky.

Those Who Hunt Elves... another good one. :) But an Amine thread isn't complete without mentioning NGE and Ghost in the Shell.

Not really a fan - but I do love the anime porn that Tyrael uploads here! :D

I watch some anime on TV, but most of it is pretty much the same canned plots/scripts, and after watching one or two you can pretty much tell what is going to be said. Some of it is okay, but most of it you can tell has the same attitude which is interesting at first, but gets old real quick - kind of like Dragon Ball Z.

DBZ was good at first because it was really quirky, very funny and had a lot of sexual innuendo - I am talking about the first episodes where they had to find the Dragon Balls. After that it degernerated into continuous fight scenes where the characters try to outpower each other.

Not only do I find it boring now, but I do think that continual watching by children gives them the impression that this is what life is all about - and no I don't think it should be banned, but I would want any child in my care to watch something more edifying. It is basically the cartoon equivalent of pro wrestling.

Dragon Ball Z isn't really a good example to label what anime is. Sure it's violent, there are plenty of other shows that aren't so graphic and there are things out there that are a thousand times worse. Just like our motion picture industry makes blood soaked, hyper promiscuous slasher movies as well as warm and fuzzy family oriented stuff.

So what it's the most popular thing right now? It won't stay popular forever. Besides there are plenty of other animes out there that make DBZ look really boring.

Try some of these series out :

Cowboy Bebop
Outlaw Star
Tenchi Muyo!
Trigun
Rurouni Kenshin
Bubblegum Crisis
The Slayers
Neon Genesis Evangelion

Much better than DBZ and unlike our favorite Super Saiya-jins most of these shows don't require 30 or so episodes per conflict where the hero/villain just stare at each other and grunt.

Steps up to the podium

My name is Moridin, and I.. Have an anime problem.

Tenchi Muyo
Ruroni Kenshin (haven't seen more than the first 20 eps though *sigh*)
3x3 Eyes
Record of Lodoss War
Fatal Fury
DBZ
Urotsukodoiji (Overfiend)
Magical Twilight
La Blue Girl
Outlaw Star
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Robotech
Gundam
Love Hina
Even Sailor Moon..

I refuse to watch Pokemon and that crap though... Little kids anime is still for little kids, and it bores the shit out of me.

Oh I wasn't using it as a typical example, but rather an example of the worst of Anime, and what I sometimes find to a much lesser degree in other Anime.

Whenever I notice a new Anime movie or series I will usually watch it for a little while, and some have been okay (I think one I kind of liked was "Ghost in the Shell" or something like that), but even then most are just to far out for me to be a real fan as I do not understand much of the references, and very few don't exhibit some sort of quirk you find in much of Anime (such as too long soliloquies).

The worst ones are the movies that incorporate music with lyrics into the script. I don't know if it is the translation, or just that all Anime lyrics make no or very little sense, and the music isn't very good.

But keep the porn coming! :p

anime...

Akira is by far the best anime film i've seen.... the tv series dont get enough money spent on them, but the movies are wonderful

Oh, lol, and if you're looking for a Real bloodsoaked anime or two..

Fist of the North Star(makes DBZ look like Barney by comparison)
Ninja Scroll

There are more, but my brain isn't working properly

Oh, another of my favs of all time:
Curse of the Youma (Blood Reign in american)

Actually, what's kind of sad is.. After a while, you start to get the Japanese humor.. To most people the classic anime faceplant and what leads up to it gives them a  response... I actually tend to laugh now...

As to the lyrics.. The thing is, the grammar, words, and the whole THINKING of the language are completely different, that's why a lot of times the lyrics don't seem to make much sense in english.

You know how hard it is to find hentai that doesn't look like it was drawn by a kindergarten student during finger painting time? Lemme tell ya, it's the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Back to anime now.

And like Moridin said...if you want violence - watch Fist of the North Star. Oh boy we're talking some very violent, painful deaths there.

Princess Mononoke is not shy about it's dismembering and bloodletting either.

Yeah, i like anime. Haven't really gotten the chance to get really into it though. but i like or heard a lot of good things about these

blood the last vampire
a/oh my goddess
akria
nadesico
fushigi yugi
bubblegum crisis
the vampire princess miyu
Earthian
sorcerer hunters
vampire hunter d
gundam wing
nge

But a good catalog of just anime is the Right Stuf International

There was one Anime movie that I found entertaining, but I haven't seen it in a long time; I remember one scene that I think was repeated twice, once at the beginning and once towards the end.

Anyway it had a guy that was walking towards these other guys who were shooting him with arrows from crossbows, and there was a skyscraper that fell on him, and he just walked through the building as if it was water, the idea being that he was so powerful that even a building the size of the WTC falling on him couldn't hurt him. Yet when he was shot, he pulled the arrows out and blood spurted from the wounds. Interesting contradiction.

You know how hard it is to find hentai that doesn't look like it was drawn by a kindergarten student during finger painting time? Lemme tell ya, it's the proverbial needle in a haystack.
Well it is appreciated - I just wish they didn't hide the genitals.
