I bought a few DVDs the other day at a very reputable store.

I got home and one of the DVDs didn't have sound - I couldn't get sound on either my computer DVD or the one hooked up to the TV.

Then on another DVD I wanted to watch the commentary. I got past the main menu, to the commentary menu, but anytime I selected one of the 4 commentaries it took me back to the main menu.

My older DVDs are working just fine. Do you think I got a faulty product or should I do something to my player?

take them back and see if they play int the DVD players tehre at the store?

I'd take them back as faulty. If the ones you get as a replacement have the same problems, then it's a player problem.

I had this problem with just one DVD in the past 18 months. Woody Allen's "Small Time Crooks" - for me the sound was distorted. So I returned it to the local video store where I rented it - and went to Blockbuster and rented it there. Same problem...

Never happened with any other DVD. As strange as it might sound - your dvd player may just not like that disk. As long as your other DVDs are working and that is the only one that isn't, then the problem is either with the disk or the combo between your disk and your player.

I haven't had this happen with a DVD, but did witness it happen with a CD. The guy took it back and said there was no sound. They put it on their player in the store and sure enough, there was nothing!!!

I'd take it back and have them check it out if your other DVDs work on your machine.

go to www.shelikesdvds.com

They have a wonderful glossary there regarding your dvds.

They have different sound systems embedded into the dvd itself. If you're playing dolby and 5.1 surround or something, it might not play correctly. It may just take a minor adjustment on your player.

In all likelihood, though, the disc is faulty.

Yayati,

I love Lagaan. I haven't seen the other film. The only other Indian film I have seen recently was Monsoon Wedding and I own that CD, but not the DVD.

There's frequently faulty DVDs, especially at the discount stores (ie WalMart). If yours were from a 'reputable' place they wont have a problem exchanging them. Go replace 'em. :)
