Anyone interested in an RP based on the Dark Tower books?

Don't know for certain just yet, but the wheels are turning. Here's what I'm thinking:

A closed thread of maybe 4 Rpers, 5 tops. People familiar with the Dark Tower (they needn't be experts, or even have read all the books, just know enough to get the gist of Roland of Gilead's world) who can write characters that exist within the scope of its realm. I don't want people who are interested in driving the plot forward, but merely people who want to add bits and pieces here and there, and develop the characters. I also don't want people who desire to play the central characters from the book series. No Roland, or Eddie, or Susannah, or Jake. I'm thinking of characters who exist before the world Roland knows falls, before the journey to the Dark Tower begins. That said, people who've read the fourth book might be beneficial, though it's reading is far from necessary.

My thoughts, the RPers involved will be young Gunslingers, none of them the old and wise Roland of the books, and they'll be there when Roland is young, when there is an order of gunslingers. I want to send them on a simple mission, one that young gunslingers can go on and be trusted with without needing an older, more experienced liason, and then have things go horribly wrong and give them a series of obstacles to overcome in defeating their main enemy (if the thread can last that long, or even begins for that matter).

I don't know if I want to keep adding to this post without knowing if anyone even knows the books, so if you think you might be interested, let me know. If we get some takers, I'll keep spilling what my thoughts are.

A great idea. I love the books but have read only the first two.

Have read all 7 Three times and own each one. I love the idea. Count me in if you do mind im female!

7? *counts* The Gunslinger, The Drawing Of the Three, The Wastelands, Wizard and Glass, Wolves of the Calla, The Dark Tower...that's only 6

Song of Susannah? that's interesting, since my copy of Wizard and Glass lists the next book as Wolves of the Calla, and The Dark Tower came out less than a year after Wolves...the Dark Tower is supposed to be the end of the series

either way, i've only read 1-4

The books are listed as follows:

The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, The Wastelands, The Wizard and Glass, The Wolves of the Calla, The Song of Susannah, and The Dark Tower.

But its cool.

The Wolves of the Calla, Song of Susannah, and The Dark Tower, I believe were all written in a streak, then released only six months or less apart. All three came out in a year's time, if I'm not mistaken. I did a fair amount of reading that year.

Okay, so basically what I'm thinking is this: I want to introduce one character of my own, minus whatever NPCs need to be added, either for necessity or for fun, either way. This character willbe one in four or five non-NPC characters in the group. No one special, not the hero, just one in the group. I basically want rule of the plot. I want to let you guys stretch your character's legs within it, and interact as you see fit, but not to push the plot along, at least not intentionally. If you're okay with that, then it might work.

I'm not sure if I want the entire thing written on one thread, or if I want to divide it into chapters, but I know the story will have to be divided into sections to keep it from over expanding. As the books do, things are apt to change all of a sudden. I'll know in advance where I want things to go, so long as you guys are okay with me pulling those strings. IF not, let me know. I'd rather the thread continued in general than it went as I'd planned it.

I'll give you the immediate setting I had in mind. The gunslingers are on thier way into one of the outer baronies (this concept was introduced in Wizard and Glass, any questions about it, feel free to ask) to collect a man who has committed some sort of crime (to be decided later) Once they arrive there, they discover something amiss, and realize they cannot return home as they came. They must continue on in the direction they'd come, into what's kown as the Untamed Lands.

Let me know what you guys think so far. I haven't got all the details worked out, because I figured I should know if anyone was interested before bothering with them. I also figured they would change once we started moving forward.

The idea itself was great. I think it would be a good idea. Would you like for us to choose a specific character from the books for our gunslinger or just the concept and generalities of a character from the book and make a new one?

Confusing? yes I know. But this is what I have in mind. Cuthbert Allgood was a cutup but he was a gunslinger. Quick with wit but quicker with a weapon. Would you like someone to play him or take his character and make a new one with him in mind?

Im all for it. Lets get it on!!

In short, I don't want much from the books, simply the world itself. I want the characters to go in a different direction than Cuthbert, Alain and Roland, as well as Eddie, Susannah, and Jake. No connection to the Dark Tower itself or to the Beams. Those things, and characters (save for Eddie, Jake and Susannsh, given they would be unknown to these characters, who would be dead by the time they're introduced) can be mentioned, in fact to a point, they must, the Beams and the Tower being central to what the Gunslingers believe, but I don't want the plot to have anything to do with Roland's quest, or a branch-out of what is intergral to King's plot in those books.

Again, I want to see the thread happen more than I want to control things, so if you guys don't want me making the calls on plot, or to do things the way I want them done, say something, and we can change things, everything maybe.

Now, if you want to use Cuthbert as a stepping stone into creating this character, I'm all for that. SO long as he/she isn't a carbon copy, so long as you aren't trying to stick with what King created, and you feel you're able to allow the character to grow as the story progresses.

I'm quite interested in this rp.

I'm in the middle of Song of Susannah. To be honest, I slowed down reading it because I don't want the series to end.

But yes! I would love to participate in an rp like this, if I may.

No problem. Jump right in. Make sure you've read up on what we'll be doing.

good deal, when should we be able to post out characters?

If you've got any ideas, go ahead and post them. Should we use this for the OOC thread, or should I start another one? This makes more sense to me given that the information is already posted, but another thread might be useful, give me the chance to edit and put the basis in one long introductory post. Either way is fine with me. It's been a while since I've RPed here, so I don't want to assume things are still done how they were before.

I'll post Rowan as soon as I get him fleshed out in my head. Shouldn't be long.

I think that using this at the initial thread would be great as you said, since all the information is here. Questions answered and what not will allow those others interested to get a general idea as to what you want. For posting a character, I think I will wait a bit and make sure I have mine developed enough. I want her to be similar in Cuthbert's nature, abilities, attitude and all but I want her to be able to stand on her own and let the others know that she is a strong person and does not have to rely on others but likes to.

Cant wait again!

You guys still out there? Been a few busy, tired days since I was here last.

Anyway, here's Rowan:

Rowan (last name TBD)
23 yrs old
6' 1"
185 lbs
brown hair, shoulder length
blue eyes.

Rowan isn't all that talkative, though when he does speak, he generally does so kindly. A bit shy, he was a concern to Cort when he began his training. "Not open enough, nor aggressive enough," Cort had warned his father. "A gunslinger should be both these things, not afraid to draw or to speak when words are needed." But his training continued, and he progressed among his classmates at what appeared to be an average rate. Seldom wasting words, he tends to remain silent, though his eyes are ever shifting among his surroundings, taking in what everything there is to be seen, analyzing it all.

(I'll have to add this next part after I browse the books a bit)

Coldon Hoyt
22 years old
6'2 215 pounds
short black hair and blue eyes

Coldon could have done better by any means. He was quick. With the sidearms yes, but with the slingshot, deadly. He had a wicked sense of humor and was quick to anger. He worked hard to become the gunslinger his father thought he could be. Cort, however, tried his damnedest to see him fail. His will was iron and many times he had crossed Cort to be battered over the head or sent with no food or water for what seemed like days. His best friend, Rowan, made those days a bit easier for he was the backbone of their company. The glue, if you will, that seemed to hold them together.

Is this okey for a character? I pondered a female gunslinger but was reluctant as Susannah was the only one in the books. So I took Cuthbert and made him a little mine and a little King's. Good?

I like it. It's got a good feel to it. THe only thing I would point out is that I don't intend for Rowan specifically to be the central character, meaning I want him involved, but when things start acting up, the most I plan on using him for is to push things along, to drop hints or be involved. I figure, if I'm the one throwing things at ou, pulling the plot strings, I don't see the sense in placing him too far in the midst of the decision making.

I'm starting to think we're the last two here. This might be losing some of its promise.

I'll post either tonight or tomorrow the gist of how I plan on beginning things, and see what you think.

Q_C

I can edit it if you like. I was thinking that since they were friends, Rowan would be the best friend like the book but without the story line revolving directly around him. But thanks. And I will keep checking. I like the idea and if it is only you and I then we will write until someone else gets interested.

Alright, I'm thinking we start things with the group en route to the Barony of Hauser. Here, they are suposed to apprehend a man who's eluded authorities in Gilead for some minor misdemeanor, one that those in Gilead are unaware of the consequences of. In short, he carries something, or is in pursuit of something, they are unaware of. The group will follow him there, intending to arrest him and bring him back, only to find much more is at stake.

I figure, they'll discover they're ka-tet along the way, having started out merely as friends, acquaintances. And they'll go much farther than the Barony of Hauser.

Let me know what you think.

I like it. Its almost as if they were going after Jonas himself. Thats great the way your story line brings ideas from the books. Im ready whenever you are my dear. Write away.

You think already? Or should we try and see if we can pull anyone else in first? It might be hard to add other characters in as they travel further from Gilead. Honestly, it seems like it'll just be us, but who knows?

Q_C

If you like I could see if I can come up with a couple of people. Maybe if you PM dragonrazor he would come back and write. Lets see, there is Screech, maybe a few others. I can see what I can do.

If you want, but I don't want to pressure anyone, especially considering that this isn't the way most RP is done, at least not in my experience. The more, the merrier, on the other hand.

I love the Dark Tower books, but can't see myself writing a male character.

I'm also unable to wrtie for a couple of weeks - going on vacation - but I sure would like to participate.
