Anyone had experience getting their stories deleted lately?

I'm trying to get all my stories deleted. I've decided I've had enough of this pen name, and I would like to retire Isabel Innuende from the internet as much as is possible.

Can anyone tell me how long, on average, it would take for this to happen? I've PM'ed Laurel and asked for my stories to be deleted, linking her to each story I want deleted as I understand this is the current process to do this.

I am assuming it will take at least a week or two to get this done, as of course deleting stories would be a very low priority. Does that sound about right? Anything else I should do?

I've asked that two of my stories be deleted. Laurel was wonderful. Took about a week.

Oh, that's great! Thank you. I have had stories deleted before, and it didn't take too long, but that was quite some time ago.

You also may want to know the quickest way to do this.

Submit a story with the title REMOVE MY STORIES

Then in the text box list the stories you want to be removed, include a link to each story.

In the Note to Admin tell Laurel why you would like them removed.

Fill in the rest of the required fields with whatever and preview, then submit.

Here are the instructions that Laurel sent me a few years ago.

Hi!

Hope you had a great weekend!

First, I want to let you know that you have every right to remove your submissions from the site at any time for any reason.

Be aware that we do not store site submission data - including votes, comments, and the text itself. Once it is deleted from our servers, we cannot restore it.

Also know that if you submit a new edit the story, we will post it as new but it will not be eligible for any contests because it is not new to the site.

For security purposes and to make sure you (as the author) are the one making the removal request, you must follow this procedure: log into your account and create a submission titled "REMOVE". In the body of the submission, put the names of the submissions you wish removed along with (optionally) the reason for their removal.

If you want all of your work removed, you can write "DELETE ALL" in one form rather than listing every submission.

If you want all of one series removed, you can write "DELETE [SERIESNAME]" in one form rather than listing every submission.

Submission removals are usually done within 2-5 days.

Thanks for your support, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Laurel

Maybe it's because of my age (sixty-six) but I don't want to change my pen name nor do I want to delete anything. It can stay there forever as far as I'm concerned. Actually, I do have a way to deal with it. I just go to another site and create a new pen name. Three is enough for the moment. I've seen a couple of people who use their Lit names on other sites.

I closed my account a few years ago, and the stories were gone in a day. When I reopened my account this year, they didn't come back.

Stories are purged from the data files when an account is closed, gone forever - unless they got captured by the Wayback Machine before they disappeared from Lit's servers. It's in the FAQs, that they go.

Don't need to have them found again. I try to keep masters of everything I write. :)

I do too, but there are often last minute changes to the file when it's in drafts. Sometimes I can't be bothered to change the master too. Usually it's something minor anyway. Besides, you don't have to delete an account, right? It's not like there is a fee charged for them. Do they delete one if its been inactive for years?

I’ve just checked you out, because I can’t recall seeing your name before, and you saying “all my stories” I thought there would be a long list. But there’s only four. Three August 2020 and one February 2021.

If you are okay with the stories and it’s just your name you’re fed up with why don’t you delete the account and then submit the stories with a name you do like? The only proviso I would suggest is to inform the reader you’ve previously submitted the story using another name so no one will accuse you of plagiarism.

My other question is how the f****** hell did you get a story titled I RAPED MY BROTHER AND HE LOVED IT past Laurel? I’ve got a story in the body of which one character asks another “why do you want revenge on him?” and the reply was “because her raped my kid sister.” There was no description of the act anywhere in the story and that was the only mention of it but I had to change it to “because he sexually violated my kid sister” which doesn’t necessarily mean rape. I just had to hope readers realised what was actually intended.

Why go to another site to get a new pen name? Why not stay on here?

A while back I decided I didn’t want to submit any more stories using the name Emirus, although I probably will 🙄, so I’ve since submitted several using another name. But that’s got nothing to do with the stories I’d already submitted and I’m quite happy to leave my Emirus stories where they are forever.

All my stories are stored on an encrypted external hard drive so no one will ever know even after I’m gone. Each story has its separate folder and I keep everything about that story from first draft through to submitted version in that folder.

If I did have a story deleted on this site I can always submit it again. Maybe even the crappy first draft to see what reaction it gets. With my sense of humour I’d love to read the constructive and helpful comments such as “what the f*** made you think it was worth switching the lap top on in the first place” to the more colourful ones.

Because I like having options, I like to have flexibility. I like to try out new themes with a different audience. Certain types of stories go on certain sites, although sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. Sometimes I have old stories I want to revise (changes in plot, for example) and I put the new version on another site. Although, I do have a couple on here that I rewrote with new titles (the old ones stayed), and nobody seemed to notice or care.

Also, well, I don't want to flood a site with too many entries. Not sure why that is important, but it is.

The whole account is gone and everything on the main site is deleted. I don't know about postings here. I'm not sure I ever came here before.

Judging by the size of the membership lists, no they don't. An inactive account will stay until the power goes off.

It also says in the FAQs that if you're deleting an account and want all your forum posts to disappear, you have to go find them and ***** out the content yourself, before the account gets closed. Which means the content stays visible unless you remove it.
