Anyone ever take the Myers-Briggs Personality Test?

The Myers-Briggs test is one of the more commonly used tests to determine personality type. A friend gave me a copy and I took it, it's like 100 questions that ask questions like, "Which word appeals to you more, party or theater? Build or invent?" Things like that.

The test differentiates you in four different ways:

An individual is either primarily Extraverted or Introverted

An individual is either primarily Sensing or iNtuitive

An individual is either primarily Thinking or Feeling

An individual is either primarily Judging or Perceiving

Normally I'd scoff at such attempts to pigeonhole me in a matrix of 16 different personalities types. Then I took the test, found out how I scored, and read the description of my personality type. It was like they'd had someone watching me for the last 20 years and wrote up a dossier.

I mean, it was goddam spot on. My strengths, weaknesses, beliefs...yup, right there. On one hand, it bothered me a lot. On the other...didn't Plato say "Know thyself"? I read the stuff and it made lots of sense. It helps me understand why I can't stand my job, why I never should have gotten an MBA, and why I feel such delight when I write filthy stories and see them posted on a website you're all acquianted with.

Anyone else take the test, have the same impression? Or take it and still think it's all bullshit after the fact?

I'm an INFP, by the way. Only 1% of the population has my particular bag of troubles.

I forget mine, but it was pretty dead on. We took it during one of my education classes as part of our lessons on how to classify our students needs and how they might best learn.

It is an amazing test. Mine was dead on too, but that was 10 years ago. It helps you decide what a good major would be when you enter college. The college I attended required it when we registered as freshman.

E/INTJ. I am exactly split between introvert and extrovert. The other traits are firmly within their categories.

ISTJ here, and yes, it fits me.

I knew that.
'Cept I might have said extroverted.
'Course... this is the internet...

i had to for my freshman year of college....im an introvert.....lol...*duh*

Yessiree

Done this test and some in a similar vein. The results are generally on-the-spot (the kind where I get goosebumps reading it).

One such personality test -- built around team/group/work relationships, nailed a, um, "close" friend and I pretty damn well, too. I'll never forget reading that. We had a private laugh on that one...

Yup. I'm an INFJ, also <1% of the population. Caught me dead to rights, too!

INTJ here. Also less than 1% of the population. Reading the description was a real eye-opener for me as well. I'm not surprised that literotica has such a collection of IN's, it fits writers very well.

There are some books that go into some pretty good detail on the different types. I would recommend "Life Types" by Sandra Krebs Hirsh and Jean Kummerow.

By the way, your ideal mate supposedly is the one who shares your core characteristics of how you receive information (intuitive or sensing) and how you make decisions (feeling or thinking), while being the opposites on the less important ones of introvert/extrovert and judging/perceiving. Kind of opposites attracting, but not in ways where you can't understand or live with each other.

Which means that a female ENTP is supposed to be perfect for me. Any running around here? I've only dated one (they are also rare, only 1% of the population), but the combination was pretty magical...

SAJ here. About 3% of the population. Less if pp_man had his way.

I took it for school in my freashman year, I got E/INFJ and it fit very well. An extroverted introvert, who knew?

I think it's something like 2 or 3% of the population, don't quote me on that though.

That test looks as if the creators of it used the ideas inherent in Jungian-based astrology. It looks like an astrologer's results sheet.

I took it, too, as part of a workshop a former employer required us to attend. INTJ here, but pretty much split between N/S and J/P. I was as much an I as possible, but I knew that already!

Are there no other "S" people here? You're all "N"?

Maybe N means liberal. hehe

ENFJ...............Yes, it had me dead to rights and is an amazing test........I have been fascinated with it over 10 years. As things change (and you) in your life, it can vary a bit but mostly is what people test.

I saw that coming from so far away it must have been a jumbo jet.

INTP

I love that test.

So I'm that predictable, huh? :p Just goes to prove that the Cheyenne I am here must really be the same as I am in real life.

I never doubted that.

Yes, you're predictable. Then again you're an SJ, you're supposed to be predictable. I, on the other hand, sometimes go outside without my pants on because I've forgot them. Is it any wonder I like you so much?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Mine was:

Extroverted
iNtuitive
Feeling
Judgment
