I'm reading the epic....oy its hard to read...its poetry and I have to keep going over it ...and over it.....so I get what the hell they are saying.....x.X Its not too bad a story....but my brain is so fried....

You'll get through it, stick with it.
Once you get through it though it, in my opinion, will be totally worth it, the time and effort

LOL... I was thinking Gilgamesh was the bad guy in The Smurfs cartoons.

Ooops.

yeah but i just read bout when the sidekick Edkindu or whatever dies....how come even back then the sidekick always dies??

Ooops.

You're thinking of Gargamel.

That little bit of info is wasting some pretty important brain space.

when it comes to epic poetry I advocate reading it alongside a cliff notes...they really are handy...they'll help you find stuff you miss as you try to detangle the poetry.

I spent three weeks studying the Epic of Gilgamesh last semester. Isn’t it cool that the first hero of western literature is gay?

he must be....all that "he's so handsome" ...and "kissing his cheek".....but then edkindu or whatever had "fun" with Shamash the whore or something....(she made him civilized...."a man")

That and the part where his mother wed them..

You must be using a different translation then I did, the word they used wasn’t ‘fun’ – and Shamash wasn’t a whore in the modern sense. You’ll notice that everything in that sequence makes him weaker, the bread, the drink, and then the sex. He’s not so much civilized as domesticated.

It can't be any harder than Beo-wulf and The Canterbury Tales, both of which I had to slog through in college.

Don't hate Chaucer...he was very good. Raunchy....vile...and hilarious at times...Wife of Bath .....:D

And Beowulf beats Xenia warrior smut girl anyday!!! AND there's a distinct connection between the last episode with Beowulf and Aliens (second movie) Think about it...big acid bleeding queen alien....big acid fireing dragon....Hero goes down into lair of "queen"....narrowly comes out....its so ironic it is almost orgasmic!!!!!!!!!! HOW CAN YOU HATE THIS?!?

Struggling through the Old/Middle English very nearly took all the fun out of them both.

Not to mention Beo-wulf didn't feature a shaven Sigourney Weaver . . . *drool*
